  • Battle of Fort Sumter

    Battle of Fort Sumter
    On April 12th, Maj. Robert Anderson and 127 men held Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor. The men hadn't been supplied since the night of December 26, 1860. Their presence caused a crisis between the U.S. government and the state of South Carolina, offended at Union. The Confederate forces were commanded by Brig. Gen. P.G.T. Beauregard. Fort Sumter only had 66 cannons to defend itself with. This was a Confederate Victory.
  • Bull Run

    Bull Run
    On July 21, 1861 the Battle of Bull Run occurred. It was the first real major conflict of the American Civil War. A Union army, consisting of 28,000 men, commanded by General McDowell, fought 33,000 Confederates under General Beauregard. The Union army, under pressure to crush the rebellion in the South, marched towards Richmond, but met the Confederate forces coming north from Manassas, a Southern base. This was a Confederate Victory.
  • Battle of New Orleans

    At noon on April 25, Farragut anchored in front of New Orleans, Forts Jackson and St. Philip, isolated and surrendered on April 28. Soon afterwards soldiers under Maj. Gen. Benjamin Butler occupied the city, which surrendered without fighting.

    The Battle of Antietam lasted for 3 hours. More live would be lost during this battle then any other during the Civil War. More than 23,000 men were killed or wounded. union soldiers were led by George B. McClellan and The Confederatres were led by Robert E. Lee. This was a Northern (union) victory.

    Under the command of General Burnside, Union Troops crossed the Rappahannock River to Fredericksburg. Confederate troops withdrew and went to higher points above the town. The Union troops failed to beat the Confederates. Union troops suffered massive set backs and were forced to withdraw.

    Siege of Vicksburg
    Union General Ulysses S. Grant won several victories around Vicksburg, Mississippi, they thought it important to the Union's plans to regain control of the Mississippi River. On May 22, Grant began a "siege" of the city. After six weeks, Confederate General John Pemberton surrendered, giving up the city and 30,000 men.

    In July of 1863, General Robert E. Lee's Army of 75,000 men and the 97,000 man Union Army under General George G. Meade, met by chance, when a Confederate brigade sent forward for supplies. This was considerd the turning point of the War for the North.

    This battle was also Know as the Assualt on Petersburg. It was locted in Petersburg, wth Union Lt. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant and Maj. Gen. George G. Meade and Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee and Gen. P.G.T. Beauregard. There were 62,000 Union troops and 42,000 Confederate Troops. This was a Confederate victory.

    When The Confederates were defeted By General Grant, Lee tried to run. But Knowing that Grant would come after him, set up a time to meet, because The Union had gotten their capital, Richmond, Virgina. When they Met Lee surenderd, and the union had won the Civil War, ALso getting rid of slavory in the prosses. Not long after Lincoln was shot, and died.
