    Was the beginning of the Civil War. General P.G.T Beauregard, the general in command of the confederate forces opened fire on the union garrison holding Fort Sumter.

Their were 87,000 union soldiers and only 38,000 Confederate soldiers. 3,500 soldiers died and 17,000 were wounded. The North claimed victory and the important result of the battle was Abrham Lincoln announced the Emancipation Proclamation.
