    Department Stores will open around 1846. They would have different goods in certain "Departments". There were fixed prices, which means no bartering. Also, there would be a money back guarantee on items. There was also free delivery if you wanted it delivered to a certain place.
  • Sewing Machines

    Sewing Machines would be a big hit in the 1800's. The Sewing Machine was created by Elias Howe. Sewing Machines would be able to sew together materials and clothing/ blankets, they would be a big-time invention during the 1800's. It would be easier and faster than knitting.

    Nativism was a way to stop immigrants from coming into the U.S. Because Americans were tired of all of the immigration going on. They the Chinese Exclusion Act will rise again. Criminals will be deported along with dieseased people and radicals. Also LIteracy Test will be given out.

    Hundred of native tribes would still be moving around looking for Buffalo and other ways of life. Horses would help out the "Plain" natives. This will increase conflict between tribes and Americans.

    The west during this time period is somewhat twisted and bad. Americans will try to drive away Indians by mass slaughtering buffalo and other animals. Americans will continue to grow and find gold and other things. But they will continue to expand. From Cowboys to Prospectors, the west will be very different from the north, south, or east.

    The Moril Land Grant College Act funded up to several States/Territories' Universities. But the Universities would have to mainly benefit towards Agriculture and Mechanic Acts. The Act will also put taxes on the sale of public land.

    The Homestead Act was an Act that granted any US Citizen (as in Former Slaves, Single Women and Landless Farmers) up to 160 Acres of Farmable Land in the West. And in order to get the Land Citizens would have to pay a small fee and be dedicated to Farm the land for up to 5 years. People and Former Slaves would flock to the West because of this Act.

    By 1863, almost every city in the US would be linked to a railroad. And by 1900 there would be about 200 thousand miles of railroad tracks down. Trains would go anywhere and fast (kinda like the modern airplane). Sending things by train would be cheaper and it would help out new markets.

    Steel was the building block of industrializing America. At first, steel could not be mass produced in the early 19th century. Then Andrew Carnegie, a Scottish immigrant., invest his time and money into the Bessemer Process. The Bessemer Process would mass produce strong steel and would be a big hit for america.

    During the Monopoly Phase, Vertical Integration came into play. Vertical Integration was when somebody controlled ALL phases of production. So control of just the product being made.

    Horizontal Integration was created for Companies so they could BUY OUT their competition. This would help them gain greater efficiency. So Horizontal Integration was just strait up buying out the buisness.

    The U.S. will become booming with business with the Laissez Faire. Which was a form of Capitalism that let Businesses take care of themselves. Businesses will become a big thing in the late 1800's. Corporations will start to expand and Monopolies will become a big deal.Andrew Carnegie will become a big-time Steel Corporation. And John D. Rockefeller will be the head of Oil production. Department stores will also be created. Mail-Order Catalogues will help out people around the U.S. aswell.

    The Ku Klux Klan was founded on December 24th, 1865 by low-class whites. The KKK was trying to prevent African Americans from reaching higher up in the Economic and Social Ladder. But the KKK made lower class whites look worse.
  • Cattle Drives

    Cattle Drives will start off with the introduction of Longhorns. Longhorns were a breed of Cow that was a mixture of Spanish and English Cows. People in the north would demand their meats. So Long Drives will become a thing because there were no railroads. Cowboys will also assist with the cattle drives. They would lead the Herds towards the north protecting them and assisting them.

    Corporations would be the biggest change in the economy during the during the late 1800's. They would be owned by stocks and be given limited liability. Corporations would be booming because of railroads and telegraphs.
  • Granges

    Granges were Farmer Formed Societies for agricultural problems. There would be about thousands of members by the 1870's. Later on, they would be politically powerful. But the Midwestern Legislatures would regulate railroads. Then Grangers would just disappear. Granges will be the first populist movements. Democrats and Republicans will add granger problems to their platforms.

    John D. Rockefeller would be the Carnegie of oil production.Rockefeller did similar things as Carnegie, he also controlled 90 percent of domestic oil. He would also transfer to Horizontal Integration.

    Laissez Faire was a form of capitalism that made the government sit back and let economic affairs do their own thing. Laissez Faire in French means "allow to do". Because of Laissez Faire there was mass unemployment which meant that there was no work.

    Tenements were multiple family dwellings. They were like apartments but they would be over crowded with people. They would have dozens of families in each floor. Tenements will be poorly ventelated, poorly lit, and ridden with disease. Rent was put off because of overpopulation.

    Alexander Graham Bell was the inventor of the Telephone. When the Telephone was invented, it would increase communication between people and businesses. The telephone was an extravagant invention because of how easy it was to use and how to use it.

    George Custer led an offensive attack before reinforcements arrived. Though Custer wanted to be a hero, he underestimated the size of the native forces. Therefore, Custer and his army were shut down. But Custer was still portrayed as a hero.

    The Phonograph was made to somewhat amplify the sounds coming from a vinyl player or radio. Also, the phonograph was invented by Thomas Edison... the creator of the electrical light bulb.

    Ward Bosses are city council members. There were Precinct captains, Ward Captains, and District Captains. Ward Bosses were close to businesses. Ward Bosses also gave immigrants jobs.

    During the late 19th Century, African Americans moved from the coast of the Missippi River to Kansas. They were called Exodusters because they "migrated" from one place to another. This then made the Exoduster Movement of Exodus of 1879. This will then create a follow up to the Civil War.

    Thomas Edison was the first person to make the ELECTRIC lightbulb. Because ever since people started slaying Whales to get their oil to power the old bulbs.

    Slums were created for Families that did not make enough money to live. They would live in tightly packed areas in New York. Slums would also have a lot of crime, such as Prostitution. Anoymitiy helped the crime go up in slums.

    During the 1880's, Immigration started to rise. Many different people from different backgrounds would come to the United States for a better lifestyle. The Swedish, Norwegian, and the Germans were mainly in the north. The Irish and the Chinese were Wage workers. All immigrants faced racism and violence. Then the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 bannd any type of immigration to the U.S.
  • Eugenics

    Eugenics was the unwanted Sterilization of people. Some people that were mentally ill, criminals, or African Americans will have to go through this procedure. Also, people would do some sort of "Selective Breeding".

    A former scout & buffalo hunter (known as Buffalo Bill) would start his own western show in the Eastern U.S. Buffalo Bill's shows would present Indian fights, Cowboy, Cattle Drives, Lassoing, Marksmanship. Many farmers, cowboys, sharpshooters and Indians (Sitting Bull) would participate in these shows.

    City Reformation (The Gilded Age)
    The City life will start to reform by adding in police forces and providing more sanitation. Public parks will be created and Slums will be condemned. Education will also be mandatory with the addition of Public Schools. The U.S. will "Americanize" Immigrants and the Pledge of Allegiance will be a mandatory thing.

    The Kodak Camera was invented by George Eastman in 1888. The Kodak camera would be essential in photographing things going down in society. It will capture pictures of the Great Depression and how people are living in tenements.

    The Ghost Dance Movement was a resistance to white rule. The shaman envisioned a big flood washing away all whites so the natives can return to their way of life. But the Military leaders saw the Ghost Dance movement as a threat... which then lead to the Wounded Knee Massacre.

    Settlement Houses would be established in major cities, because of social programs and educational services. The Hull House was runned by Jane Addams. She would cook, sew, provide hygiene, teach civics and English. Jane and the Hull House would be a model for other settlement houses in the future.

    At first, Imperialism started to grow because of military force (Sometimes) and the use of communication on trying to acquire new lands. America would be like a giant empire. America will use their powerful Navy to their advantage. But when the U.S.S. Maine Incident occurred. Yellow Journalism would spark a war between Cuba. But before that America will capture The Philipines, Guam, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico. The Panama Canal will also help expand the U.S. with exports and imports.

    This massacre would happen by accident/ on purpose. A gun will accidentally go off on the Native side. There would be a total of 300 Sioux that would be killed while performing a ghost dance.

    Rober Barons are capitalist that grew rich by practising shady business. They would manipulate political workers. Carnegie, Rockefeller, and Vanderbilt were considered robber barons
  • Taking over Hawaii

    The U.S. would take over Hawaii because of its resources. Hawaii at the time had sugar and good ground for growing it. So the U.S. would eventally overthrow the Hawaii's Monarchy and take over.

    Tin Pan Allen were New York City music makers and singers. They would dominate American music in the Late 19th and Early 20th Centuries. Jazz then evolves from the Harlem Renaissance by Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington A trumpeter and a pianist. Some people saw jazz as an opportunity to bring people together and have a good time... While others thought that jazz created lewd behavior and recklessness.

    Yellow Journalism was a way back then to sell Newspapers on specific topics. Yellow Journalism was a way to tell what is going on but EXAGGERATED. It was created by William Randolph Hearst. Yellow journalism woud be used against the Spanish in a later tim.

    The Rough Riders were somewhat a military force. They were kinda like Cowboy Army Men. But anyways, Theodore Roosevelt will lead the rough riders to the top of San Juan Hill. Where he will become famous and be known for his actions.

    The U.S.S. Maine would explode because the Weapon Cache was right next to the Engine Room. People would spread rumours about this incident by saying that the U.S.S. Maine exploded because of an underwater mine.But then later on after reviewing the incident it was because the weapon cache got heated up and exploded because the gunpowder was in the ammo.

    At the Battle of San Juan Hill. American Troops will race up the hill to secure the position. Theodore Roosevelt will lead the Rough Riders to the top. It will make Teddy would get fame from it but they weren't the offical first ones at the top.

    Americans will surround Santiago Cuba, and the Navy will destroy Spain's fleet. America will make Cuba surrender on July 17th, 1898. The Siege of Santiago will be a big victory for America at this time.

    The Treaty of Paris would give up Cuba, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines. Cuba will become a "Puppet" State, which Cuba will make concessions so the U.S. Forces could leave. But Puerto Rico, Guam, Philippines would be sold to the U.S. for 20 Million Dollars.

    The Philippines will revolt against Spain and the U.S. The Philippines will use Guerilla Warfare against the U.S. and Spain. 220 thousand Filipinos will die in the war, and the U.S. will starve many Filipinos. The war will end in July 1902

    The Open Door Policy was a U.S. sponsored agreement that made the Chinese Market open to everyone.It did not establish any means of good trade. Ther were no Taxes on any goods being imported or exported, and the Chinese eventually created production fees on imports and exports.

    The Boxer Rebellion was vastly supported by peasants in their uprising during the 1900's. This would try to drive all foreigners from China out. The Foreigners were called Boxers because they worked for a secret Chinese Society known as the Yihequan. The Yihequan meant Righteous and Harmonious Fists.

    The Big Stick Policy will outline the ideal foreign policy. Theodore Roosevelt will say in his foreign policy speech “Speak softly, and carry a big stick". This would mean that say what you have to say, but keep your military at your ready.

    Ths will be Roosevelt's executive order to limit Japanese immigration. Japanese people were able to be in Hawaii because Hawaii needed sugar workers The Japanese gave out passports to families not in America... these will later be called Picture Brides.

    Henry Ford will be the Creator of the Model T Automobile and he will create the Assembly Line. The Model T will require Standardized auto parts to be fixed.Working for Henry Ford in his Assembly Lines gave good pay. But it had some strictness to the Job. Men couldn't drink, get in trouble with the law, or smoke. So working for Ford had it's pros and cons.

    Angel Island was the Ellis Island of the West Coast. Thousands of Chinese Immigrants will migrate to Angel Island after the San Fransisco Earthquake in 1906. People will be considered "Paper Sons" because their Birth Records will be lost. Angel Island will be open for immigrants to help identify them.

    The 17th amendment allowed voters to choose the Senators to Congress. Unlike before, Stat legislators would appoint Senators to Congress.The 17th Amendment would stop scandals and corruptions in the U.S. So the 17th Amendment was another voting right for the people

    Marcus Garvey was a Jamaican immigrant who thought of Booker T. Washington's Economic Empowerment. He would create the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA). He would have his own businesses and would dress militant, hoping to inspire other blacks. Garvey would also buy land in Africa for black people around the world. His sights on Jim Crow was kind of different, he wanted to keep Jim Crow because he liked a challenge? But he would begin the Black Power Movement during the 1920's.
  • WWI Weapons

    With WWI, came different weapons and chemical warfare. Mustard Gas will be introduced to kill or cripple soldiers on the battlefield. Submarines will be a way to attack underwater and be stealthy. Planes will be used for bombing runs and to provide air support. Tanks will be used to get on ground troops across enemy lines and to clear out buildings. Machine Guns will be used to wipe out big fleets of soldiers. And Barbed Wire will be used to prevent soldiers to get pass defences.
  • Trench Warfare

    During WWI, Trench Warfare would change how battles are being fought. There was a section in between each side of the trenches called No Man's Land. No Man's Land is pretty much a place where no one passes and no one gets out alive. It is pretty much just a kill zone between each trench. Soldiers in the war get PTSD (or at the time "Shell-Shock") and it would hurt them mentally after the war. It will create illness within he soliders.

    World War I would begin with the Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand from Austria. The war will also become big with the giant cluster of Alliances between countries. This war will also introduce new tactics and developments in weaponry.

    Archduke Franz Ferdinand was an Archduke of Austria who was Assassinated by the Black hand group member. The person who assassinated Franz Ferdinand was Gavrilo Princip. Gavrillo Princip will kill Ferdiand by shooting him while he is in his car in an alleyway.
  • Panama Canal

    The Panama Canal will be the Shortest route between the Caribbean and the Pacific transportation of goods. At first, the Canal was being worked on by the French but then they gave up on it because of Disease and other bad situations. Theodore Roosevelt purchased the right to build the Canal for 40 million dollars. The Canal will take 10 years to build because of the Lock system and the making of the Canal.

    The Great Migration was when African Americans migrated north to escape Jim Crow. There were about 7 million people that migrated between 1890 and 1970. Immigrants also fled because they wanted a better economic life. They would try to escape war, persecution, starvation and other harsh conditions.

    Muckrakers were rabid journalist who investigated government scandals and corruptions. They would try to weed out corruption and try to push towards an amendment to stop corruption.

    The First Red Scare will happen in the U.S. with rumours of Communism lurking in the states. People and Congress will pass the Immigration Act of 1924 in fear of Communism and the Soviet Union. The U.S. will also fear Germans. Also Sacco and Vanzetti which were "Anarcists" will be prosectued in the Process.

    The Espionage Act was to prevent any crime that involved obstructing military recruitment, encouraging mutiny and the spreading of lies. The Espionage Act was trying to not let people get discouraged about the war through crimes and other obstructions.

    During the very beginning of WWII Germany will go from a Monarchy type of Government to a Republic Government. Then during that time, the Weimar Republic would be founded. Then Hyperinflation kicked in and then Saving were wiped out from banks.

    The 18th Amendment was an amendment that was passed to make Alcohol Illegal in the states.Women would support this Amendment by describing how it is changing me and how it is making them abuse their wives.

    The 19th Amendment was passed because during WWI women took over some jobs while the men were in the war. After the war, women wanted their rights and other rights. So congress passed the 19th amendment and gave the women the right to vote.

    The American Indian Citizenship Act will legally make Native Americans Citizens. But this act will not give Native Americans the Right to Vote. But then that would change in 1940's.

    Herbert Hoover was the 31st President of the United States in 1928. Hoover was orphaned as a Child when he was Young. Hoover was at first a Humanitarian but he was a poor public speaker. He was Introverted and the beginning of his presidency was good. He had limited government intervention.

    Herbert Hoover will make America go into a Depression by not meeting up to the Demands of the people and keeping an eye out for scandals and corruption. Herbert Hoover will make Americans basically unemployed and really broke.But then Franklin D. Roosevelt will step in and solve mostly everything. FDR will be America's Hero by being both Physically and Mentally Strong throughout the entire Depression.

    The Massacre will be ordered by Al Capone who is in Miami at the time. Al Capone will want to get rid of George "Bugs" Moran who is part of another gang. Al Capone will send some of his men disguised as Police Officers with Thompson SMG's and Shotguns. The Gang members will be put on a wall and be gunned down by the fake policemen in an instant.

    The origins of the stock market crash, there was an overproduction of goods. The market didn't meet the demands of goods. So there were limited purchasing power. There was also unequal income distribution. 62 percent of income was going to the corporate. There were also high tariffs both in the states and overseas.

    The Dust Bowl was a giant Dust Storm that occurred in Oklahoma and other states in the Southern Plains The Dust Bowl will cause drought which meant that people would migrate to California (for Harvest) to get away from the Dust Storms. Oklahomians (or Okies) will be detested by the people in California. They will ive in makeshift camps on the sides of roads.

    Herbert Hoover was a Republican that was indifferent towards people. Hoover was the first person to get people into the depression anyway. But Franklin D. Roosevelt, a Democrat, wanted to run a conservative Campaign and fix the depression. Franklin would win the Election by a landslide and run for 3 terms.

    The 20th Amendment will change the term dates for the Presidential Election and for Congress. The President's Inauguration will be in January instead of being in March.
  • The Rise of Adolf Hitler

    Since Hiter was a good speaker, and people at the time agreed with what he was talking about. Hitler would then take leadership of the Nazi Party. Hitler would then be locked away in jail for 9 months, and then he would write a book called Mein Kampf. Where he describes his struggles and blames everything on the Jews. Hitler's radical ideas would increase the Nazi Party Membership and then Hitler would become Chancellor. Hitler would then be given "Emergency" Powers, and become Fuhrer.

    The 21st Amendment was a way to repeal the 18th Amendment by making Alcoholic Beverages legal again. Because you can't just rip off any amendments. So they had an Amendment to stop another amendment.

    German troops will march towards Austria to take it because it was a German-speaking nation for the 3rd Reich. Austrian Nazis will be conspired once again since the past four years.

    The Munich Conference was an agreement signed by Germany and the Powers f Europe. It will give Germany Sudetenland and Germany will "Promise" to not take or invade other lands.

    Sudetenland was a reason for the of World War 2 because when The Nazi's will be given Sudetenland after the Munich Conference as part of an agreement in the Treaty of St. German. But after Sudetenland was given to Germany, Germany will later invade Austria.

    Navajo Code Talkers were Navajo Native Americans who would transmit a secret message in Navajo.They would transmit codes during the war for the U.S. The Japanese never deciphered the code during the war.

    Since Germany was having a Depression at the time, one man will rise up and try to fix it all... Adolf Hitler. Hitler will slowly rise to the top of German and eventually try to invade and conquer other lands. But no one liked how and what Germany was doing, so all of the big countries would step in and try to prevent Germany and its Nazi's from being a big and super country with absolute power.
  • Battle of the Atlantic

    Battle of the Atlantic
    The battle of the Atlantic is Longest and most complex battle in naval history. German Submarines sink over 100 ships in about a month. But then radar would be able to seek out ships and German Subs. The Enigma Machine would be able to protect military communication. So there will be less deciphering codes from each other.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Japan makes a Suprise attack on the U.S. 8 Battle Ships will be damage along with planes and supplies. Though Japan damaged a couple of ships, Japan will not destroy any battleships/destroyers. Then later on, Japan attacks American and British Territories in South East Asia.

    Margaret Sanger would be the first person to introduce birth control to women. She believed that children made women improvised. So she opens up the very first birth control clinic which educated women about the dangers of illegal abortions and contraceptives. But then Margaret Sanger would be arrested for inventing birth control and educating women about birth control and bad methods of it.
