  • Virginia - The First Colony

    Virginia Virginia was founded by John Smith and others at Jamestown. The major industries in Virginia were plantations (tobacco, wheat, corn) and the iron industry.
  • New York - The Second Colony

    New York New York was founded by the Duke of York. New York's industries were flax and help farms.
  • Massachusetts - The Third Colony

    Massachusetts Massachusetts was founded by the Pilgrims and John Winthrop. Massachusetts' major industries were agriculture (fishing, corn, livestock), and manufacturing (lumbering, shipbuilding).
  • Maryland - The Fourth Colony

    Marryland The Maryland Colony was founded by George Calvert, Lord Baltimore and other colonists, at Baltimore. Maryland's major industries were manufacturing (shipbuilding, iron works), and agriculture (corn, wheat, rice, indigo).
  • Rhode Island - The Fifth Colony

    Rhode Island The Rhode Island colony was founded by Roger Williams and other colonists, such as Anne Hutchinson at Providence. Major Industries were livestock (dairy, fishing). Fish included cod, mackerel, herring, halibut, hake, bass and sturgeon, and whales.

    South Carolina The South Carolina Colony was founded by eight English nobles with a Royal Charter from King Charles II. South Carolina's major industries were agricultural (cotton, tobacco, rice, sugar, indigo, and other crops).
  • Pennsylvania - The Twelfth Colony

    Pennsylvania The Pennsylvania Colony was founded by William Penn and other colonists. Pennsylvania's major industries were flax and hemp.
  • Salem Witch Trials

    Salem Witch Trials Trials for witchcraft were held in Massachusetts. Twenty people were executed for being witches during the trials. The trials were not just held in Salem, but also in Andover, Oyer, and Terminer.
  • Tea in the Colonies

    Tea ActTea Tea is introduced for the first time into the American Colonies in 1714. Tea would be important in the American Revolution because of the Tea Act in May 1773, and in the Boston Tea Party in December 1773.
  • Georgia - The Thirteenth Colony

    Georgia Georgia was founded by James Oglethorpe. Georgoa's major inustries was agriculture (indigo, rice, sugar).
