    Julily is sold to the Riley Plantation which is a very siginificant event because if she wasn’t sold, she wouldn’t have met Liza as well as Alexander Ross which are two important characters throughout the story, including the plot.

    During Julilly's arrival to the Riley Plantation, Julily comes across of an Abolitionist and a free black boy who provides her water. This is one of the major events in the story considering the fact that it reveals the main themes of the story which is friendship, since the boy showed friendship by supplying Julilly water to drink from his gourd.

    Lester and Adam are tied up with chains while the slaves that are sold head to the Riley Plantation. Furthermore, both Lester and Adam get their chains caught in the swamps and Julily assists them out which displays the theme of friendship in the story as well as the mood which is very tense and serious. As Julilly is empathetic, a bond gets created between them which takes place later in the story.
