    This is the beginning of our great Navy. Started in 1775 to slow down the Royal Navy attacking from Cananda. This is the USS Constitution oldest commissioned warship afloat.
  • Early Disarmament

    Early congress wanted to disestablish the Navy. They wanted to get rid of the navy for the following reasons; change of goals from war to peace, more domestic and fewer foreign interests.
  • Naval act of 1794

    The Navy built 3 ships but originally had 6 slated to be finished. At the end they only built 3 for the Navy.
  • War of 1812

    War of 1812
    The U.S, Navy and the Royal Navy's battled in the war. It was started becuase the Royal NAvy would stop U.S. ships so they could check for british citizens. They really wanted to press U.S. sailors into the Royal Navy.
  • Opening of Naval Academy

    The United States Naval Academy was created in Annapolis, Maryland for Naval officers to get same level of training as Army officers at West Point about Naval Warfare.
  • Civil war

    During the civil war our Navy split up into two the U,S. Navy and the C.S. Navy. One of the battles was in Corpus Christi bay of Corpus Christi, Texas. The battle lasted 6 days and teh U.S , won a tactical victory.

    After the Civil war our country started to downsize the Navy again. The citizens believed that we again don't need a Navy becasue the cost outwieghs the benefits.

    Navy starting to build up after the disarming period ends, By 1898 the U.S Navy had over 200 types of battle ships.

    The Asiatic Squadron, under the command of George Dewey, immediately left Hong Kong for the Philippines, attacking and decisively defeating the Spanish fleet in the Battle of Manila Bay.

    Theodore Roosevelt become President in 1901 and keep the Navy as one of the best in the world.

    During World War I, the Navy was the first branch of the United States armed forces to allow enlistment by women in a non-nursing capacity, as Yeoman.
  • Retrenchment and Expansion

    Retrenchment and Expansion
    We started building Aircraft CarrierS and cruisers to help solidify our navy. !922 the First Aircraft carrier was commissioned.
  • Pearl Harbor attacked

    Pearl Harbor attacked
    On Dec the 7th 1941 Pearl Harbor was attacked by Japanese planes from an aircraft carrier.

    Unconditional surrender of the Japanese to end WWII on board the USS Missouri.

    The war between North and South Korea which a peace treaty was never signed we are still feeling the effects today. The main job of the Navy during the Korean war was to help the Army that was on land by firing its guns towards enemies on land.
  • Vietnam War

    Vietnam War
    The U.S. Navy and its involvement in the Vietnam war was a different one from others. We used blue water the ships from the blue water navy to bomb the inlands and the brown water navy helped control the rivers in Vietnam.
  • Cold War

    During the Cold War President Reagon wanted the Naval fleet to have 600 ships. We never achieved that stoping at 588 in 1988. The cold war lead to the creation of the supercarrier.
  • Global war on terrorism.

    Today the US Navy has numerous responsibilities. From sending IA to boots on ground missions to various others around the world.
