    Portuguese begins exploring Africa

    Portugal was under the sponsorship of Prince Henry the Navigator. There, they found new sources of gold and the southern coast of Africa became known as the Gold Coast.
  • Jan 1, 1488

    Bartholomeu Dias rounded the top Of Africa

    In 1488, he rounded the tip of Africa because of reports of a route to India. He called it Cape of Good Hope.
  • Oct 1, 1492

    Christopher Columbus reaches the West Indies

    Columbus thought he reached Asia, and after 4 voages he had reached all major Caribbean islands and Honduras in Central America. He called it the Indies.
  • Jan 1, 1494

    Treaty of Tordesillas was signed

    Spain and Portugal were afraid that the each other would claim some newly discovered territories. Resulting in the Treaty of Tordesillas, it was for a line of demarcation extending north to south though the Atlantic Ocean and easternmost part of the South American continent.
  • May 1, 1498

    Vasco da Gama sails across the Indian Ocean to India

    Vasco went around Cape of Good hope and cut across the Indian Ocean and arrived off the port of Calcutta. There, he took on cargo of spices and with those, he made proft of several thousand percent.

    Pedro Cabral lands in South America!

    Albuquerque finds Melaka

    Portuguese was ranging more widely for the source of the spice trade, Albuquerque soon found Melaka, which was a spice trade port.

    First enslaved Africans taken

    First enslaved Africans were taken from Africa to the New World & when slavery was abolished in United States.
  • Jan 1, 1519

    Spain rules Mexico

    Spanish forced landed at Veramand in 1519, about 1560 the spanish had expanded and controlled all of Mexico
  • Oct 1, 1520

    Ferdinand Megellan circumnavigates the world

    Magella passed through a water way into the Pacific. He was then killed by natives, one of his ships returned to spain afterwards.
  • Nov 1, 1520

    Aztecs were defeated by Hernan Cortes/Spaniards

    Cortes arrived at Tenochtitlan, the Aztec were unfamiliar with their types of weapons, which gave a great advantage in fighting them. Tentsions between Spaniards arose with the Aztecs and took Montezuma hostage. Cortes recieved new soldiers, because many were killed, and the city surrendered.
  • Jan 1, 1535

    Incas were defeated by Francisco Pizarro

    Piarro arrived bringing steel weapons, which the Inca had not seen any of those before. Atahuallpa was captured by Pizarro and executed him, Pizarro and his soldiers captured the Inca capital and established a new one.
  • Jan 1, 1555

    Peace of Augsburg

    Throughout Europe at this time was religious warfare. Charles V hopes to keep unity of his empire by keeping it Catholic, Charles was unable to defeat Lutheran Princes with his military forces. He forced to seek peace, hence, the Peace of Augsburg.
  • Dutch sail to India

    Competition between English and Portugiese for the Indian Ocean Trade
  • Dutch establish settlements on North America

  • English sails to India

    There they established trade relations.
  • Hudson Bay discovered!

    1610, Henry Hudson discovered the Hudson bay.
  • English take New Netherland

    English siezed New Netherland and renamed it New York.
  • French colonize Canada and Louisiana
