  • The Hapsburgs Lose Control

    During the 1800s the Austrian Hapsburgs start losing thier power that they held over Austria for centuries which sets them up to be taken over by someone else.

  • Ottoman Empire

    During the 1800s the Ottoman Empire begins its decline. This allows other world nations to come in and take the smaller countries previously ruled by the Empire.

  • Congress of Vienna

    At the Congress of Vienna the Confederation of Germany was formed uniting many small countries into one confederation

  • Italy Unites

    Unity is called for by Nationalists in Italy causing revolts. After seeing other nations unite, the people of Italy wanted change too.

  • March to Sardania

    Nationalists make their way to Sardania to set up shop making this the new location of the main nationalist revolution

  • Control is taken

    Victor Emmanuel II takes over the Nationalist movement in Sardania leading them towards unity.

  • A New Emperor

    Francis Joseph becomes the Emperor of Austria dethroning the Hapsburgs. He answered to all of the nationalist revolts going on at the time.

  • Count Camillo Cavour

    Count Camillo Cavour is appointed Prime Minister of Italy. He puts nationalist plans into action.

  • The Secret Alliance

    Cavour makes a secret alliance with France so they can back him up in a war he was ready to provoke

  • A War is Provoked

    Cavour starts a war with Austria without them knowing of his alliance with France so he could unite Northern Italy.

  • King of Italy

    Emmanuel II is crowned the King of Italy

  • Otto Von Bismarck

    Otto Von Bismarck is appointed the Prime Minister by King William I. He uses militarism and realpolitik to unite Germany.

  • Austrian Alliance

    Bismarck forms an alliance between Prussia and Austria so he can bully smaller countries.

  • War on Denmark

    Prussia and Austria together attack a much weaker Denmark and take over Schleswig and Holstien. Prussia takes Schleswig and Austria takes Holstein.

  • Stabbing Austria in the Back

    Bismarck goes against his treaty with Austria and attacks. Prussia wins and takes Holstein.

  • The Dual Monarchy Compromise

    After seeking thier own independence from Austria, Hungary must settle for a dual monarchy with Austria. They were separated by capitals and constitutions but they were both ruled over by Francis Joseph.

  • Franco-Prussian War

    Bismarck wages war on France. France gets dominated and this proves that Prussia is legit.

  • Germany is Born

    Germany is officially united as the 2nd Reich, meaning the 2nd empire.

  • Kulturkampf

    Bismarck declares a political war on the Catholic Church because he wanted every German's focus to be on Germany and on nothing else.

  • The Iron Chancellor

    Bismarck is appointed Chancellor of Germany by Kaiser William I. This gave him more authority to do what he pleased to make Germany even stronger.

  • End of Kulturkampf

    Peace is made with the Catholic Church after Bismarck realizes that the war he began only sparked a rise in faith.

  • Death of the first Kaiser

    Kaiser William I dies

  • The New Kaiser

    William II takes over as the new Kaiser following in his Grandpa's footsteps. He, unlike his grandfather, puts his plans into action much more effectively.

  • Chancellor Steps Down

    Bismarck is asked to resign by William II becuase he doesn't want to live in anyones shadow
