By the 12 months a baby should be learning to take its first steps.
The baby can sit down without help and pull itself up to stand. Triple the birth weight. -
At the 12 months a baby should be able to do simple things such as say "mama" or "dada" to parents, can point to and identify objects in books. Can respond to its name and be able to follow fast moving objects with sight.

Is able to walk down stairs, learn to jump with both feet in one place. Posture is more erect. Respiration is slow and regular.

They can name a couple of body parts, maybe 6. They can arrange things in categories such as pants and shirts are clothes. In advanced minds they understand "now" and "later", "more" and "less". Able to speak and half of speech is understandable.

Speech is understandable most of the time. Produces expanded noun phrases, such as big red dog. Likes to look at books and may pretend to read, and be allowed to turn pages and point at pictures.

Legs grow faster than arms, baby fat begins to disappear as neck appears. Posture is more erect than before, can climb down stairs with alternating feet and jump from low step of stairs. Should be able to ride a small tricycle.
