Zlata sees picture of the war. It started in Dubrovnik. She sees all the hunger, no electricy, and people dying.

shooting is starting/ and bombing in Sarajevo. People are getting wounded and killed. In Sarajevo 15,000 dead, 3,000 of them are children, And 50,000 are permanent invalids.

Nina dies.A peice of sharpnel went right through her head and she died. Nina dies at a park when she was playing with Zlata.

Zlata's Mom finds out that Braco was shot. Braco was almost died. They were going to cut off his leg.

Most of her friends have left. Maja,Bojana,Nedo, Doda, Matea, Martina, Oga, Keka have all left.

A bomb hit Zlata's house and destroyed all the windows into peices. The rooms were full of glass. Zlata picked picked up a peice of sharpnel and a tail end of a gernade.

A boy from drama club was killed. A shell fell in front of the community center and a peice of sharpnel killed him. The boys name was Eldin and was a refugee at Grbavica.

Zlata found out that her Diary was going to be published. Zlata went to the City Assembly and her Diary was being examed.

Cici dies. Cici dies because she was pregnant with the tomcat. She also died somewhat of the war.

There is no mail coming in. Nobody is getting any mail because it is hard to get letters and packages during this terrible war.

Families are spillitiing up. The children are going first. Then later the parents join them. Like Doda and Dejan are being split up from there family.

Zlata ha remembered when she had to hide in the cellar. The cellar is dark and scary. They had to hide in the cellar because the shelling and gunfire was coming and so they had to be safe.

Zlata tells how many people die during the war. 15,000 people died in Sarajevo, 3,000 of them are children, 50,000 wounded. Zlata has seen people with crutches, wheelchairs, armless, and legless.

People in Sarajevo get four hours of electricy every 46 hours. They could only have so much because of the war.

Zlata gets a friend in America. His name was Brandon and he was from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He is twelve. He wrote a letter to Zlata and that makes Zlata happy. She replies and puts a lovely pencil.

Zlata finally gets out of Sarajevo. She gets out with her Mom and Dad. They move to Paris. There is life. They have water, electricy, food, and gas. Zlata is so happy to be out of Sarajevo.
