    Assination of Franz Ferdinand
    Franz Ferdinand was the Archduke of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. A Serbian terrorist group, called The Black Hand, had decided that the Archduke should be assassinated. A man called Gavrilo Princip shot the Archduke and his wife Sophia.

    Before the Assination countries had started forming partnerships as they didn't like that the Germans and Austrians were strong, Britain and France were partners and were already arguing about areas in Africa with Germany. Russia were also against Germany. The assination was the short term effect that triggered these long term effects.

    The Schlieffen Plan was a German war plan for a war with France and Russia. It had a big effect on the war. It was supposed to invade France straight away and take them out of the war. Germany thought France were a stronger nation than Russia. But this didn't happen.

    The German people supported the invasion of Russia and France and the German Government thought they would win easily. But this wasn't the case and weakened their army. It also lead to many more countries joining the war against them. A plan called the Schieffen Plan was supposed to make France weak and then make it easy to win against the Russians, but France and Russia and Britain defended and Germany got weaker

    People weren't sure if the Austrilians would be able to fight against the Turkish and Germans as they had only been a county for 14 years. Some people didn't even think this was the place they ment to land.
    The long term effects, were that they gaining control of Dardanelles and get communications back with Russia It also helped to get wheat, food and shipping through the Black Sea by Turkey

    The short term effects of America joining the war was extra help for Britain and France. German submarines were stopping food and other resources coming into Britain from abroad. , British warships would provide heavily armed escorts for all ships coming to Britain from the United States, Canada, and other countries.
    Long term effects were that Britain could win the war.

    The Short and long term effects were the amount of people that were injuried. The British had lost 420,000, the French lost nearly 200,000 men and the Germans 500,000 - The battle of Somme was the worse battle or the WW1
    Many people were angry and changed the way the war was fought. Britain only gained 25 miles

    USA were Neutral in the war and didn't want to get involved. German Submerianes bombed a US Ship and that started the process of the Americans joining the war.
