    The Start of WWI
    The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand started WWI. Gavrilo Princip is the one who shot the archduke and his wife. Franz Ferdinand was the heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne.
  • German Invades

    German Invades
    The fighting actually begins when Germany invades Belgium. But Belgium isn't on a side they are neutral. England was forced to fight.
  • Chemical Warfare

    Chemical Warfare
    The Germans fire shells full of chlorine gas at the allied lines. The first time a very large amount of gas was used in battle. The french lines were nearly collapsed.
  • New Technology

    New Technology
    The first ever tanks were used.The British were the first to ever use tanks in a battle. They weren't like they are today they used them to clear paths and run fences over.
  • Submarines

    Submarines
    The submarines are being used by Germany again. This draws the United states into the war more than ever. This isn't the first time this happened. They used them in previous battles but they didn't work so with there new and improved design they worked.
  • Selective Service

    The selective Service Act was passed. This authorized the draft. President Wilson claims this is the best option. you had to enter the draft and if you get called you don´t have a choice but to go to war.
  • The United States enters

    The United States enters
    The United states enters the war. Congress authorizes a declaration to begin war against Germany. When Germany started using the submarines it drew in the United States.
  • Peace Treaty

    Germany and Russia sign a peace treaty. The treaty gave Germany a huge amount of land this land in the Ukraine and Poland. Also peace on the eastern front allows Germany to shift soldiers to the Western Front.

    The Battle of Chateau

    Thierry was a small battle that would morph into the battle of Belleau Wood. The battle starts as the U.S. Marine Corps attack the German across an open field of wheat, suffering huge casualties. Then finally ended on June 26,1918 the final expulsion of the Germans from the Wood. That was the farthest the Germans got in paris. This battle lasted 3 weeks and switch hands 6 times which caused 10,00 American casualties.
  • Arriving in Virginia

    Arriving in Virginia
    Sidney Kornegay arrived in Quantico Virginia at 3 o'clock on Wednesday. They left Paris Island at 11 o´clock the day before. 650 of them marched with their backpacks and rifles to the dock and took the barge across the bay to port royal where 16 coaches awaited them.

    He wrote this letter to ask a favor. His company commander has sent up his name for the officers training school. He thinks he will be asked for some kind of credentials. He asked the vice president of the bank to recommend him.
  • Another move

    In his Battalion they were told to turn in all their winter stuff so they could move. They don´t know where they are gonna go untill the land or when they leave shore. For 3 days they had to walk 4 miles to the trenches for drill. They are located in a old battlefield which is very rough and covered with timber. Near the road we have a small cabin of logs with Marine Flag on staff and a beautiful sign of ¨Chateau Thierry¨ above it.

    They are still traveling at sea. For instance one day at breakfast they had oatmeal, eggs, bananas, coffee and bread just from the bakery of the ships. They have to clean very good in each and every corner. They also have to sleep in hammocks.
  • Death

    He was killed in the Battle of the Argonne Forest. He was killed in France. He was in the marines and was a private. He served in the 95th company and the 6th marine regiment.
  • The End

    The End
    The war is finally over after 4 years of fighting. An armistice is signed ending the fighting on the Western Front. They war ended after both sides agreed to sign an armistice.
