    WWI Machine Gun Crew
    Could fire 400-600 small caliber rounds a minute. A crew of 4-6 is required to operate it. The gun operated off of a tripod and weighed between 66-130 pounds. Had to be above trenches to use the weapon. One of these is equivalent to 60-100 rifles. Used throughout the war.
  • M1903 Springfield

    M1903 Springfield
    30-06 rifle that could hold 5 rounds of ammo. Was a bolt action style rifle. Was used all the way up the the Vietnam and Korean Wars. The rifle weighed 8.7 pounds. Used throughout the war.
  • Assassination of Franz Ferdinand

    Assassination of Franz Ferdinand
    Franz Ferdinand and wife were visiting a Bosnian capital of Sarajevo. Ferdinand was murdered by a Bosnian served nationalist.
  • Aircraft

    Aircraft
    First war that included aircraft. Mainly used for artillery spotting. Had specialized aircraft for bombing or fighting. Pilots were not expected to live long as many of the planes were shot down.
  • Black Sea Raid

    Black Sea Raid
    The Ottoman Empire provoked the Russians to attack them, and the Ottoman's ended up destroying many Russian ships.
  • Mauser c96

    Mauser c96
    the German semi automatic box magazine style pistol. The calibers ranged from 7.63x25mm to .357. The wooden grip gave the pistol more stability and earned it the name "broomhandle". Had superior range for the time. First designed in 1895, was used by the German military until 1937.
  • Horses in WWI

    Horses in WWI
    Played an important role in war. Used in calivery units, but were often shot down by machine gun fire. the horses were used to move supplies, and even transport the wounded to field hospitals.
  • Chemical Weapons

    Chemical Weapons
    Many different chemical weapons were made. Some included tear, mustard, chlorine, phosgene gases. These gases caused body damage, anything from going blind to burning of the lungs. 1.3 million people are said to be killed from these gases. Fired 18,000 shells of these weapons on the Russians when they were first used.
  • The Battle of Verdun

    The Battle of Verdun
    Was a battle between German and French forces. Germany attacked the French first. The German casualties were 434,000, while French casualties was 379,000. Artillery was used by both. The battle lasted from February 1916 to December 1916.
  • The Battle of Somme

    The Battle of Somme
    Battle was fought between the British and French forces against the German Forces. It is considered the largest battle in the war. Over 3 million fought, 1 million was killed or injured. First battle that included tanks and trench warfare. Battle lasted from July to November.

    Germany told Mexico that they were going to try to help them conquer their lost territories.
  • The Treaty of Versailles

    The Treaty of Versailles
    The treaty reassigned German boundaries, and assigned liability for reparations. Was written by Allies with little German influence, and affected all countries involved. Only allowed Germany to have a small military force.
