    On the 28th of June 1914 Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to the Austo-Hungarian throne, was shot dead in Sarajevo, along with his wife Sophie Duchess of hohenberg. he was shot by a member of a radicle group trying to break off Austria-Hungary's south-slav province to be combined into a Yugoslavia or a Greater Serbia. The Archdukes death led directly to World War I
