  • Assassination of Archduke Franz Fernindad and his wife

    Archduke Fernindad and his wife were murdered by an Serbian nationalist Gavrilo Princip- one of many who thought that lands that Austria- Hungry took belonged to Serbia. Thus, Austria- Hungry balmed Serbia for this. So, Serbia asked Russia to help them, and Austria- Hungry asked Germany to be on their side. The thin peace between Europe then shattered.
  • Austria- Hungry Declares War on Serbia

    After the assassination, a chain of events had been leading up to Austria- Hungry declared war on Serbia. Russia sided with Serbia, while Germany sided with Austria- Hungry. The war had begun.
  • Germany Declares War on Russia

    Four days after Serbia and Austria- Hungry declare war on each other, so does Russia and Germany.
  • Germany Declares War on France

    After Germany told Russia to stop mobilization, France, suspitious, started its own mobilization. France asked the UK to join in, but the UK government said no at first. Then, Germany invaded Luxembourg, Belgium- a nutral country- in attempt to take France. Then, France declared war on Germany, prompting the UK to join in the war.

    In an intempt to invade France, Germany invaded Luxemburg, Belgium- making the UK join.

    Germany invaded Luxemburg, Belguim forcing Great Britian to join the war.
  • Battle of Marne

    Battle of Marne
    The battle of Marne was brutal. Falkenhayn voted to have the battle be full of bloodshed, and later was booted of of the cometee.
  • The Sinking of the Lusitania

    The Sinking of the Lusitania
    German U-boats off the coast of Ireland caused the Lusitania to sink in about 20 minutes. There were 270 people that had died when it sank, including 25 plus Americans.
  • Battle of Verdun

    The battle of Verdun had about 600,000 casualties on both sides.
    The German army had taken Fort Douaumont and Fort Vaux in Febury of 1914. Falkenhayn- he elected for majior bloodshed in the battle- was removed form his position in July.

    During the battle between the Germans and the French, the Germans took two forts- Fort Douaumont and Fort Vaux. They had almost claimed an old catherdril, but the battle was called off and General Erich von Falkenhayn was removed. He had elected for majior bloodshed in the battle. Both siders were left with about 600,000 people dead.
  • Sinking of the Sussex

    Sinking of the Sussex
    A German submarine sank a French passenger ship carrying war supplies. Leaving 80 casualties and 2 wounded Americans, the Germans responded to the anger of French and American people with the Sussex plege. It was pleged that German U- boats would give warning begore torpedoing passenger and merchant ships. It was upheld untill Febuary of 1917.

    With 1,000,000 or more casualties and injured, it was one of the most bloodiest battles in history. It was fought on the river Somme in France, between July 1 and November 18.
  • The Zimmerman Note is Intercepted

    The Zimmerman Note is Intercepted
    The Zimmerman note was from Germany to Mexico. It asked for Mexico to sgree to go to war with America. It intercepted, though, before the Mexican government got it. In America, there was an outcry for war- and they got it.
  • Battle of Argonne Forest

    Battle of Argonne Forest
    The battle of Argonne forest lasted a total of 47 days, from September 18 to November 11, 1918- Armistice Day. The battle marked the end of WWI.
