  • The Beginning

    The Beginning
    Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife were assassinated while in Sarajevo by a man named Gavrilo Princip. By this act Austria-Hungary had then declared war on Siberia. This was the complete start of WWI.
  • Belgium and Germany

    Belgium and Germany
    On this day, Germany had sent the Belgian Government a letter asking for permission for their troops to cross Belgium’s land. The government didn’t actually receive this letter till the next day. But as they had received this letter they refused to give Germany permission to cross. But on the same day as the refusal, German declared war on France and later invaded Belgium for the land. This was the cause on Britain’s entrance into WWI against Germany.
  • The First Battle of Marne

    The First Battle of Marne
    The First Battle of Marne was the first battle to use radio intercepts and was also the first battle to use automotives to transport troops around. The battle was fought between Germany, France, and Britain. Is was fought in the North and East of Paris. This would have been a strategic win for the Germans if they could have actually won. But, France and Britain worked well enough together to push back the Germans and have them retreat from Paris.
  • German Shells

    German Shells
    This is the day the Germans shot chlorine gas filled shells into Allied lines. It caused a near-collapse on the lines which caused the Allied forces to fall back for some time. With the Allies back, the Germans had to perfect chance to make a huge move. But, even with the opening they were unable to take advantage of the attack.
  • Lusitania Problems

    Lusitania Problems
    After firing chlorine shells at allied lines from Germans carriers. Wilhelm ordered their submarines to sink the Lusitania. The Lusitania was a "cargo" ship which had 1,198 people on it, including 128 Americans. The Germans successfully sunk the Lusitania and angered the U.S. This was also a beginning to the U.S. entering WWI against Germany.
  • The Battle of Somme

    The Battle of Somme
    The Battle of the Somme begins. This battle was fought between the French, British, and the Germans. It was said that this battle had lasted over 100 days and was one of the longest battles fought. This was also the first battle in which tanks were first introduced into the war, this was a huge game changer on both sides.
  • The United States Enter WWI

    The United States Enter WWI
    On this date, The United States entered WWI after British had caught word that Germany wanted Mexico to join them in the battle. Within doing so, Germany promised to give them back the land that they had lost to the Americans. But since British had intercepted this and brought it to the United States’s attention, congress declared that we enter the War against Germany.
  • Russians Withdraw

    Russians Withdraw
    This date was a big success as you could cay for the Russians. They had created a communist government in hopes to make peace with the Central Powers. In doing so they had withdrawn from the war and began to rebuild.
  • Zimmerman Telegram

    Zimmerman Telegram
    The Zimmerman telegram was given to a man named Wilson by the British Intelligence. On this was a coded message from the Germans to Mexico. In this code the Germans had said that Mexico should join them in WWI against the United States. The British had decoded this message a d sent it to the U.S. and this was a big push for the U.S. to declare war on Germany.
  • Company C (Andrew Fisher) arrives

    Company C (Andrew Fisher) arrives
    Company C arrived in Clermont-en-Argonne which was their first time being on the front lines. They were there to provide soldiers with fresh water. For this being their first time on the front time on the front lines, it was also their first time the heard sounds of constant artillery. This was also their first time seeing air battles.
  • A Truce had been made..

    A Truce had been made..
    Rumors began that there was an armistice (a truce). This had commenced on 11/11 around 11:00 in the morning. The war was over, BUT, C Company was removed from the first army which was who they came to help and supply. They were now to report to Third Army for occupation duty.
  • Treaty is signed?

    Treaty is signed?
    After making a truce with the American Army,German Kaiser Wilhelm II fled Germany. This was the biggest action before signing the treaty which officially ended the war. It was a huge event for Andrew John Fisher because he was on the front lines when the truce was declared.
  • Coming Home

    Coming Home
    When they met with Third Army, they were now apart of the 26th. By March 24th, 1919 all of the 26th had finally made it back to United States. For the next 10 years he worked as a bricklayer which was very much needed during this time. Which this time included the boom years after the war.
  • The Ending

    The Ending
    This date was the end of WWI. The Treaty of Versailles was signed and the war was over. The Allied states had officially won, it was a huge relief for these nations as a whole. But now the losing countries had to pay for the damages that they had caused.

    Andrew Fisher: After Being Home
    The Great Depression came in 1929 and since he was a bricklayer in the building market, he didn’t have much work of any at all. Andrew survived for the early years during the depression on what he and his wife could make and buy. These were some of the toughest times for most Veterans of WWI. But he and his wife lost their lives in a very fatal car accident.
