  • Llyod Brown started in WWI

    Llyod Brown was only 13 when he joined the Navy, he lied about his age to get in, Llyod was born on October 7th, 1901. He was sent to the Great lakes to be trained then shipped to battle. His first battle he was on the boat called New Hampshire, he was apart of the gun crew.
  • Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand.

    A teenage Serbian nationalist shot Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife, Sophie as their vehicle through the streets of Sarajevo.Franz Ferdinand Carl Ludwig Joseph Maria was an Archduke of Austria- Este, Austro-Hungarian and Royal Prince of Hungary and of Bohemia and, from 1896 until his death.
  • Germany declares war on Russia, France and Belgium.

    Reacting to the Austrian attack on Serbia, Russia begins full mobilization of its troops. France and Belgium begin full mobilization. August 3, 1914 - Germany declares war on France, and invades neutral Belgium. Britain then sends an ultimatum, rejected by the Germans, to withdraw from Belgiu
  • Germany begins U-Boat blockade of England

    Germany sailed its first U-boat on January 31 1915, a U-boat is basically a submarine.
  • Tanks first used at the Battle of the Somme.

    The first use of tanks on the battlefield was the use of British Mark I tanks at the battle of Flers-Courcelette which was part of the battle of Somme.
  • Germany declares unrestricted submarine warfare.

    Unrestricted submarine warfare was first introduced in World War I in early 1915, when Germany declared the area around the British war zone, in which all merchant ships, including those from neutral countries, would be attacked by the German navy.
  • Zimmerman Telegram intercepted by British.

  • U.S Enters War

    Congress authorizes a declaration of war against Germany. The United States enters World War I on the side of France and Britain.
  • German and Russian Peace

    The Germans sign a peace treaty with the new Bolshevik government of Russia. The terms of the treaty give Germany huge tracts of land that had been the Ukraine and Poland, and peace on the Eastern Front allows Germany to shift soldiers to the Western Front, causing serious problems for the French, British, and Americans.
  • Selective Service Act

    Congress passes the Selective Service Act authorizing the draft. Although criticized for destroying democracy at home while fighting for it abroad, President Wilson claims he sees no other option and signs the bill into law.
  • Battle of Cantigny

    The Battle of Cantigny is the first major American offensive of the war. Though small in scale, the Americans fight bravely and soon go on to larger attacks against German positions.
  • Chateau - Thierry

    The Americans attack the Germans at Chateau-Thierry. This battle would morph into the larger Battle of Belleau Wood.
  • Battle of Belleau

    The Battle of Belleau Wood begins as the U.S. Marine Corps attacks the Germans across an open field of wheat, suffering huge casualties.
  • Belleau Wood ends

    The Battle of Belleau Wood ends with the final expulsion of the Germans from the wood, which marks the farthest German advance on Paris. The area has changed hands six times during the three-week battle, which has caused nearly 10,000 American casualties.
  • Lloyd Brown dies

    Lloyd brown was one of the last surviving naval veteran until he died in March.
