    Assassination of Franz Ferdinand

    This is the day that Gavrilo Princip assassinated archduke Franz Ferdinand which ultimetly started World War 1.
  • Germany invades Belgium

    On July 24, 1914 Belgium declared war on Germany. In just under two week on August 4 Germany set off the first military campaign of the war by invading Belgium.

    This battle had put a huge strain on the Germans battle stratagy (attaking from two fronts/sides) . The Belgians had significantly weakend the German forces bassically to the point of their demise.

    The Gallipoli Campaign was a French lead mission against Turkey the 38 mile long Dardanelles channel in order to capture/occupy Constantinople. The operation turned out to be an overall success.

    This battle was longest running and most gruesome battle of WWI. Around 143,000 French soldiers died and around 163,000 German soldiers died leaving over 300,00 people dead. Also there where aboud 300,000-400,000 people injured total on both sides.

    Battle of the Somme

    This offensive battle from the Allied forces against Germany on the Western Front. Arounf 19,000 British forces died on the first day of the battle making it one of the worst days in that militaries history. This battle lasted 141 days, over 3 million men faught on both sides, and over 1 million men were killed or wounded. The British only had advanced around 5 miles during this battle.

    Death of Grigori Rasputin

    Rasputin had became the imperial couples healer for their only son Alexi in late 1906. The son had Hemophillia and the royal family thought that Rasputin helped the boy better than any of the doctors could. He died in Decomber of 1916 after he was shot three times to the forehead. His body was dumped and found in a freezing river.

    In mid March of 1917 Tsar Nicholas II abdicated from the Russian throne. The next year he was assassinated along with his family at different dates.

    Lenin's return to from exile

    Vladimir Lenin was exiled from Russia because he stured up the people with his Marxist ideologies. He had went to Europe and became a prominent figure for the Marxist movements. When he returned to Russia he continued doing what he had before and he lead Bolshevik forces to overthrow the government. They built up the military to protect themselves and their colonies from their enemies.
  • US declares war on Germany

    On April 7, 1917 President Woodrow Wilson put a request for a decloration of war on Germany and in December of 1917 the United States officially declared war against Germany.

    A treaty that the Bolshevik government (Soviet Russia) and the Central powers signed that ended Russia participation in the war.
