  • The U.S. remains neutral

  • The first Battle of the Marne begins.

    Trench warfare begins as soliders on both sides dig in. (Military Event)
  • Trenches built

    They were built in the western front.
  • The United Kingdom announces that the North Sea is a military area

    Creating a blockade of goods into Germany.
  • Sea was blocked

    Germany blocked it.
  • Germany declares a "war zone" around Great Britian

    effecting a submarine blockade where even neutral merchant vessels were to be potential targets
  • The Second Battle of Ypres begins.

    It is during this battle that the Germans first use poison gas.
  • Lusitania Sinks

    A German Submarine sinks the passenger liner Lusitania.
  • British use gas in battle near Loos

    Shifting winds cause 60,000 British casualties.
  • The Battle of Verdun begins

    The Battle of Verdun was the longest battle of World War I and was one of the bloodiest.
  • Woodrow Wilson re-elected President of the United States

  • Germany sends the secret Zimmerman Telegram to Mexico

    In effort to entice Mexicao to join the war.
  • Reich Foreign Secretary Zimmermann's telegram to Mexico

    Urging her entry into war against the United States is discovered and translated by the British.
  • U.S. Enters War

    Congress authorizes a declaration of war against Germany. The United States enters World War I on the side of France and Britain.
  • The armistice goes into effect

    agreed upon between the new Russian government and the central powers goes into effect.
  • U.S. Preident Woodrow WIlson issues his Fourteen Points

    A Statement was given that declared that WWI was being fought for peace.
  • Russia signs the Treaty of Brest Litovsk

    A peace treaty between Russia and the Central Powers
  • Germany signs the armistice in France

    FIghting ends on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.
  • The treaty of Versailles

    Ends WWI.
