  • The battle of Tannenberg

    It wa the first real battle in the war. Russia went into Prussia and so did Germany. The Russians railroad system didn't connect to Prussia's well unlike the Germans. So the Germans were able to surround the Russians. It was a major defeat for Russia and they lost 125,000 people. Germany lost 13,000 troops
  • The assassination of Franz Ferdinand

    He was the heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne. He was assassinated by a 19 year old member of the black hand (a secret military society). He was shot in the chest and died in the car. This was the second assassination attempt that day
  • Second battle of Ypres

    This was a battle between Germany and Britain. Germany used poison gas for the first time in this battle. It killed a lot of the British troops
  • Sinking of the Lusitania

    A German U-boat shot and sunk the RMS Lusitania.Over 1,000 people were killed. This turned the opinion against Germany
  • Battle of Jutland

    It was a large naval battle between Germany and Britain. Britain had blocked Germany off but they broke through during the night and returned to port. The British lost about 6,000 people and Germany lost only 2,500
  • Battle of the Somme

    It was a large battle led by Britain and France against Germany. This was a 5 month battle and Britain had been bombing the German barbed wire but just made no man's land muddy and destroyed. The British lost 60,000 the first day and 420,000 overall. The France lost 200,000 and German lost 500,000. All of this for just 25 miles of land
  • Aero raids on Britain

    Germany did the first arraial attack ever. This was a way to make them stop fighting Germany as much and instead protecting their home front.
  • German U-boat campaign

    The campaign was that any allied or neutral ship would be sunk and fired at. In one month they had sunken about one million goods were sunk
  • USA declares war on Germany

    America declared war on Germany
  • Armistice signed

    This is the end of the war. It was signed in a small French town. This gave Germany all of the blame

  • Battle of Verdun

    It was a nine month battle and there was no winner. The Germans plan was to ¨bleed the French dry¨. The battle took place in northern France and they fought in the hills. Both sides lost a lot and Germany lost 430,000 and France lost 530,000
