    Assassination of Franz Ferdinand
    Franz and his wife Sophie were in Sarajevo visiting. During this they were in a topless car as they were riding down the road, the car then blew up, but miraculously they were both fine. After the explosion they still wanted to keep going. They were then shot to death by a group called “Black Hand.”

    Austria-Hungary Declares War On Serbia
    This was only one month after Franz was killed. Franz was Austrian and when a Serbian man killed him this was not good for Serbia. Austria-Hungary were very upset and wanted to do something about it. This is how WW1 started.

    When Franz was killed, Tisza wasn’t sure if Serbia plotted the assassination. It was then found out that it was correct. Also, if Serbia was bound to have any wars Russia would be involved and it would cause a European war. This is exactly what happened when Austria-Hungary invaded Russia.

    Great Britain Begins Naval Blockage on Germany
    The British had so much control of the Sea and created a blockage from Germany. This meant that Germany couldn’t get any supplies and etc because the British controlled the sea. So then the North Sea was declared a war zone. Also, the access form the North Sea to the English Channel was all closed off.

    This was when Australian and New Zealand troops showed up for the very first time with no training. There was a man named Wiston Churchill he made a mistake and lead the troops to the wrong area which then lead to the Turkish troops spotting and killing them.

    The Lusitania had left for Liverpool 6 days prior from the attack. The Germans attacked without any notice and Lusitania sunk within 20 minutes. So many people were furious and outraged by this attack. 1,198 people downed and 128 of them were Americans.

    It all started when Italy joined allies because of the Treaty of London. Italy wanted the territory of Austria-Hungary and so they attacked them. When Italy signed the treaty that meant that they committed themselves to WW1. The allies with them was Britain, France and Russia.

    This battle was the longest of the First World War that took place in Verdun, France. There were at least 300,000 deaths in this battle. This was also known as the bloodiest battle too. It started on December 18th and didn't end until February 21st. The was a French victory as well.

    This was a naval battle between Britain's Royal Navy Grand Fleet and German Navy's High Seas Fleet. This battle was on the North Sea. The Germans had 100,000 aboard their 250 ships that were battling. Unfortunately 8,000 men were killed an 25 boats had sunk from both sides.

    This battle is known for the longest battle in WW1. There were British soldiers going unto battle for the first time, some of them wee even volunteers. The battle then began on a 15 mile of front north of the Somme. It was also a horrific battle because there was 1 million casualties.

    President Woodrow Wilson wanted to request a declaration of war against Germany. This happened by going to a joint session with Congress. So then after that the United Sates declared war on the Germans.

    The USSR withdrew from the war because of peace talk, but then came back to the peace conference. The Russian people were also tried of war and there was also some misunderstandings with land that was ignored.

    This battle was the last German offensive battle in the World War. This battle failed because one of the allies was planning an attack with tanks and overwhelmed the Germans. There was also very severe casualties.

    Germany was met to sign at the railroad car outside Compiègne, France. With ending this war it saved so many lives. This war left 9 million dead and 21 million wounded. Unfortunately there were also at least 5 million civilians that were killed.

    This was an international meeting just outside of Paris. They wanted to meet so that thee was peace after the World War. The allies that met were France, Great Britain, and Italy. This was called “allied powers.” This was also known as the Treaty of Versailles.
  • Draft of the Covenant of the League of Nations is Completed

    Draft of the Covenant of the League of Nations is Completed
    This was completed with close supervision buy President Woodrow Wilson. It would be a new International Organization with composed of 3 bodies. This was called The Secretariat. This was also supposed to restrict any war from happening.
