    Francis Ferdinand was assassinated which triggered the start of WW1. A group called the Black Hand are held responsible for this event. The assassination took place in Sarajevo.

    On July 28 Austria declared war on Serbia. This begins the war. They declared war because they were threatened by Serbian ambition.
  • Promotion

    He was promoted to command of Ski Troops. He was given the way he fought in the Carpathian campaign. Here he was awarded the Iron Cross award.
  • Zeppelin Raid

    Zeppelin Raid
    The first Raid took place on Britain. Britain suffered their first casualties do to these air raids. They were dropped on the eastern coast of England.

    Italy entered the war because of the Terms of Secret. May 23 was the day Italy joined the war. Italy was in support of the Allies so do to this fact the Prime Minister wrote a document in support of the Allies.

    The Battle of Loos began on the 25th of September. This battle was supposed to be used to push the Germans back some. Britain's first army attacked Germany at Loos.

    This battle was the longest single battle that happened in WW1. February 21 is when the battle began and it did not end until December 16. France suffered the most casualties and biggest impact from the battle.

    Lloyd George became the British Prime Minister when he replaced Asquith. Lloyd was the leader of a coalition government. The conservative party favored this type of government.

    After being an observer for a long time Lowenhardt became a pilot. Soon he was advanced to jasta 10. This took place in July.

    The U.S. declared war on germany on April 6 1917. The main reason the U.S. declared war was because of Germany’s submarine attacks. And the U.S. did not like the sinking of the passenger and merchant ships.

    Erich Lowenhardth was soon promoted to commander of Jasta 10. He had destroyed 18 enemy aircrafts. He had 18 balloons in this period.

    The Pour le Merite is a prestigious award. This was the highest German award to be given. He was awarded the medal for outracing the triplanes of Jasta 11.
  • Lowenhardt’s Death

    Lowenhardt’s Death
    Erich Lowenhardt was killed in a plane collision. The collision was with Alfred Wenz. Both men abandoned their planes after the collision. Lowenhardt was killed when his parachute did not deploy.

    This date marks the official end of WW1. This happened on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th Month. The war left 9 million soldiers dead and 21 million wounded.

    The Treaty of Versailles was signed on this date. This was the peace settlement signed at the end of WW1. It gained its name because it was signed at the Versailles Palace in Paris.
