    Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated in Sarajero, Bosnia by a Serbian Nationalist (Gavrilo Princip).

  • Austrian- Hungary declares war on Serbia

  • Germany declares war on Russia

    Germany went through with the Schlieffen plan. And will attack France first.

  • Germany declares war on France

  • Germany invades Belgium

    Britain tells Germany to withdraw from Belgium, Germany does not reply meaning Germany and Britain are now at war.

  • First Battle of Marne

    Germanies advance through Belgium into France was stopped in september just 60 kilometres from Paris at the Battle of Marne.

  • Turkey enters the war on the side of the Central Powers

    Began on the 21st of April and finished on the 25th of may 1915.

    The Germans planned to occupy the Channel ports because these would be useful as U-boat bases. However the British put a stop to it at the first Battle of Ypres.
