    The Assassination of Ferdinand
    The archduke of Austria was Franz Ferdinand. Ferdinand and his wife Sophie were assassinated in Sarajevo on June 28th of 1914. This was a death that ignited the start of World War 1.
  • Austria Declares War On Serbia

    Austria government officials blamed the Serbia government officials for the assassination of Franz Ferdinand. Franz Ferdinand's wife declared war on Serbia. Germany also offered to aid Austria.

    Germany declared war on France in August of 1914. German invaded belgium. It stated that they invade in the Schleiffen Plan. Sir Edward Grey sent a ultimatum to Germany wanting a with drawl from belgium.

    The Russian army marched into prussia. Because of the railway it was difficult for Russia to get supplies. The Germans used there railway to surround the russian second army at Tannenberg before the commander knew what was going on.

    The Germans sunk an american submarine. The submarine was called the Lusitania. The ship was carrying a little over 1300 people. There was only 128 americans present on the ship. The others were french.

    The Germans attacked the French at Verdun. The plan was to bleed the French dry. The battle lasted nine months.The battle did not have a winner. Both sides lost a huge amount of men.

    The battle was preceded by a week long artillery bombardment of the German line which was supposed to destroy the barbed wire defences placed along the German line. They only managed to turn no mans land into mud and craters. In the 8 month long battle they only managed to gain 25 miles of land.

    The Zimmerman Telegram was a secret message from Germany to Mexico. The telegram was a military alliance between Germany and Mexico. This was all while United States entered the World War 1. The United States was in war against Germany.

    The United States declared war on Germany. They did this in response to a sinking. Which was the sinking of U.S. ships by the German U-boats.

    The attack of the German sector at Amiens was ordered by Haig which is the British general. News that the allies had broken through from Salonika and sued Bulgaria to sue peace at the same time.

    The Armistice was signed in 1918. It was signed at 11 am in the French town of Redonthes. The signing of the armistice brought the war to an end.
