    WW1 started
    WW1 was a war that that was fought in Europe. it was referred to as world war or great war, but in America they called it the Europen war. sadly more than 9 million combatants were killed. This war had two sides the Allies(United Kingdom, France and the Russian Empire) and the centeral powers(Germany, Austria and Hungary). over a few weeks more and more Allies and Centeral powers started to enter, which brought on a huge war.

Germany's former cheif of staff of the German army Alfred von Schlieffen convinced the German troops tomake a two-front war with Russia and France. Only a few hours after Germany declared war France decided to anounce war against Germany. Francereadying its troops to move into the provinces of Alsace and Lorraine, which it had forfeited to Germany in the settlement that ended the Franco-Prussian War in 1871.

    The first german air raid on Britain was in a zeppelin, a motor-driven rigid airship, Germany used these zeppelin air ships to drop bombs over some of the eastern coast of England. The bombing of Britain went on for two days with Germany deploying three zeppelins to do the work. With the zeppelins being made out of heavy steel they were vulnerable to explosion because they had to be lifted by highly flammable hydrogen gas instead of non-flammable helium gas.

The assault troops landed at night on the western (Aegean Sea) side of the peninsula, the aim of landing on the cove was so Britain could invade the Gallipoli peninsula.
