Doyen's Childhood
Doyen Parsons Wardwell ws born on April 15th, 1896. He was born in Kingwood, West Virginia to Minnie Doyen and James Wardwell. Doyens nickname was Dink. -
The Start
The start of WW1 started with the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. He was the Archduke of Austria and Hungary. Austri declared war on Serbia due to the assassination. -
Doyen's War Life
He was in World War 1 in 1914- 1918. He was in the Army Air Forces, 103rd Areo pursuit squadron, and the 185th pursuit Escadille. He was stationed in the Unted States and France and he was a Major. -
Emergency Landing
A French piolet had to make an emergency landing and landed in a tree. The landing was due to a failed attempt to attack a German Zeppelin Hungar. This took place in Brussels, Belgium. -
Verdun
on February 21st, 1916 the Battle of Verdun started. it is one of the longest battles. It is also one of the bloodiest. -
French Soldiers
These French soliers have medals on their bodies. You can tell they're French because of the crest on their helmetes. The soldiers were given medals for acts of bravery. -
First Tanks
On September 15th, the British took a large step in batle. The British used the first tanks ever. Tanks are used to break thou barbed wire and clear a path for infantry. -
Zimmerman Telegram
Germany sends a secret telegram down to Mexico. The note is asking Mexico to join Germany in the war. The British intercept the teltgram and de-code it. -
Entering the War
The united States enters WW1 on April 6th. The U.S. declares war on Germany. The U.S. sides with France and Germany. -
Prisoners
These are German prisoners. They are held captive in France. This took place in August 1918. -
Flying
Doyen was a first class piolet rained at Dayton's orville wright field which is now an Air Force base. He was a member of the Lafayette Escadrille and made some of the first night flights. He flew for reconnaissuance, pursuit, bombing, and escort missions. -
40 Meters
This is a picture of German soldiers in a trench with a machine gun only 40 meters away from the Bristish line. The machine gun that they have is called a maschinengewhr 08. it car shoot 450-500 rounds per minute. -
Tuberculosis
This is Guiseppe Uggesi, an Italian soldier. He is in an Austrian prison camp in Milowitz. He was confined to bed with tuberculosis. -
His Death
Doyen Parsons Wardwell died on August 8th, 1929. He was killed in an airplaine crash.He was only 33. -
On The Wings Of Time
Doyan Parsons Wardwell's letters were discoverd 75 years after they where written. The letters were found in an old trunk. In the trunk was about 100 letters that he wrote, his war diary, and many military papers.
