Archduke Franze Ferdinand and his wife, Sophie, were killed during a visi to Sarajevo. This assasination resulted in Austria-Hungary declaring war on Serbia. Russia soon folowed in afterwards. Germany declared war on Russia -
President Woodrow Wilson's Appeal for Neutrality
President Wilson asks the people of the United States to remain neutral in the conflict. He says that this is in the best interest fo the nation and must be impartial in our decisions. -
Sinking of the Lusitania
German ship sinks Brittish steamship Lusitania resulting in over 100 American citizens loosing thier lives. The United States became furious over this event and makes it clear to Germany that the situation is grave. -
Sussex Pledge
March 1916 Germans break thier promise not to sink ships and sinks the French liner Sussex wich left many aericans injured. Wilson warned Germany to stop the suprise attacks. Germany promised to spare lives in future U-Boat attacks in the Sussex pledge. -
Zimmermann note
March 1917 a germanmessage is intercepted heading to Mexico. The not sujjest that if the US enters the war then Mexico and Germany should become allies and regain "Lost territory".

President Wilson declares we can no longer remain neutral
Persident Wilson tells the US senate that we cannot remain neutral anymore and we must intervine and spread peace to the European nations. We do this to bring peace not for our own personal gain but for the rights of mankind. -
US votes to declare war on Germany
The United States Senate decides to declare war on Germany 86 to 6. The house of representatives followed afterwards voting 373 to 50. The US entered this as a war to end all wars
