Assassination of Archduke
On June 28th, 1914 the Archduke of Austria, Franz Ferdinand was assassinated. He was assassinated by Gavrilo Princip of Servia. This event was kind of the pushing point of the war and pretty much started the war. (WW1) -
Austria-Hungary declares war on Serbia
On July 28th, 1914 Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia. They declared war on Serbia because, Serbian people killed their Archduke. So Austria-HUngary was very outraged. -
The Beginning of Chemical Warfare
The French were the first to use Chemical gases. They used a 26mm grenade filled with tear gas. The first large scale use of chemical gases was on January 1, 1915 when Germany fired 18,000 shells containing tear gas onto the Russians, but it failed because teh tear gas froze and didn't work properky. -
Battle of Yrpres Begins
The Battle of Yrpres begins. It started on October 19th, 1914 and ended November 22nd, 1914. It happened in Western Belgium, the German, French, Belgian, and British armies fought from France to Belgian coast. -
Trench Warfare
Form of land warfare using fighting lines consisting of large trenches, which military were protected from enemy's weapons. It was signifacant because it kept less troops getting killed or injured. -
The Battle of Verdun
Fought from February 21 1916- December 18, 1916 during World War 1, on the West Front, between French and German armies. -
The Battle of Somme
One of the most deadly battles of World War 1 that lasted from July 1st, 1916 to November 18th, 1916. It took place on both sides of the Somme River and was one of the biggest battles of World War 1. More than 1,000,000 men were killed or injured in this battle, making it one of the bloodiest battles ever! -
The Battle of Passchendaele
The Battle of Passchendaele was also known as the Third Battle of Ypres. It lasted from July 31, 1917 to November 6, 1917. It took place in Flanders, Belgium and Passendale. -
Armistice
This was an agreement that ended fighting in Western Europe that compromised WW1. This agreement was pretty much what ended the war and put an end to the fighting. -
The end of WW1
The treaty of Versailles ends WW1. The Treaty of Versailles was the token of peace between Germany and Allied Powers The Treaty was intended to punish Germany so bad that many believe that the Treaty of Versailles laid the foundation for World War 2.
