    The WWI started of with a war between 2 countries. However, due to alliances dating back to 1879, other countries got involved, making a huge mess.

    The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife, Sophie, b a Serbian nationalist, sparked what was later known as WWI. People to this day wonder, "Was it really just one fanatic? Was it really planned by the government?"

    Germany declared the area around the Great Britain a war zone. Meaning that all merchant ships, including those from neutral countries, would be attacked by the German navy. A series of attacks on merchant ships followed the scandalous sinking of the British ship Lusitania by a German U-boat on May 7, 1915.

    Lusithania
    A luxurious British ocean liner was torpedoed by a German U-Boat on the so called 'war zone' which was on the southern coast of Ireland. On the Lusitania, 1,201 people on board drowned, including 128 Americans. Although the Lusitania was a British ship and it was carrying supplies, it was principally a passenger ship. International scandal led by the U.S resulted in German U-Boat warfare for 2 years.

    The Zimmerman Telegram was a letter written from Germany to Mexico to declare war against the United States. It was German attempt to entice Mexico into an alliance against the United States. Germany's main purpose for this Telegram was to slow down the U.S. help.

    Having that the Zimmerman Telegram was the last drop, In 1917, President Woodrow Wilson requested a declaration of war against Germany. Wilson provided list of Germany’s violation of its pledge to suspend unrestricted submarine warfare in the North Atlantic and the Mediterranean to the congress. On April 6, 1917, the U.S. Senate voted in support to declare war on Germany.

    Treaty of Versailles was a peace treaty that had multiple goals and plans for handling Germany. Due to Germany's reputation, fearing that the history will repeat, series of strict restraints were placed upon them. However, England, France, and America put together the treaty to prevent that from happening.

    The Dawes Plan - proposed by Charles G. Dawes, attempt in 1924 to solve the WWI reparations. The plan provided an end to Allied occupation, and a payment plan for Germany to follow for war reparations. Young Plan - adopted in 1929 to replace it.

    United States Stock Market crashed, beginning a major economic crisis, The Great Depression. By 1934, up to 15 million Americans were unemployed with almost half of country's banks failed. The horrible crisis that came upon the USA didn't only affect the USA, it effected all of the countries around the world.
