    Germany begins naval blockade of Great Britain

    The Blockade of Germany occurred from 1914 to 1919. It was conducted by the Allied powers before and after WW1. They did this to try to restrict the supply of goods to the Central Powers. Some people this is one of the key ways that lead to victory. “The German Board of Public Health in December 1918 claimed that 763,000 German civilians died from starvation and disease caused by the blockade up until the end of December 1918.”

    On June 28,1914, Archduke was assassinated in Sarajevo, which sparked WW1. He was there to inspect the imperial armed forces in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Him and his wife were shot by a nationalist during a visit. They were shot point blank and almost died instantly.

    On July 28, 1914, Austria-Hungary invades Russia. Austria figured since their leader was assassinated they would invade Serbia. The Austrian broke their relation with Serbia. Some groups were hesitant because they didn’t want an all-out war.

    The sinking of Lusitania took place Friday, 7 1915 during WW1. The ship was torpedoed by the germans and sank in 18 minutes. It took place in Ireland, killing 1,198 and leaving 761 survivors. 100+ Americans were killed.

    The Battle of Verdun was the longest engagement of WW1. In 1916, there were close to a million casualties between the German and French troops. New gases and flamethrowers were used. There was a stalemate and a loss of resources between both sides.

    The Zimmerman telegram was a communication issued from Germany in January 1917 that proposed a military alliance between Germany and Mexico if the United States entered World War I against Germany. Mexico thought they would recover Texas, Arizona and New Mexico. This code got intercepted. This helped the US gain support on germany.

    Tanks were never seen in history until WW1. They were for the most part poorly built but they worked. Tanks in WW1 became a thing because of the stalemate on the western front. The French fielded their first tanks in April 1917 and made way more more tanks than all other combatants combined. Germans made tanks in response to the Allies tanks.

Pershing commanded 2 million U.S soldiers Some Americans didn’t want to join the war but we still did. New technologies were brought to war. America entered the war from several previous events that occured.

    During WW1, Lucius is writing to his parents about the time he is having. He is talking about how life is easy because he gets to go fishing and hunting often. He also gets to play tennis and golf. The time goes by fast so he is not bored. He says that the weather is very nice and the sun doesn’t set until midnight. He says that he loves his parents and that he will be home soon.

    During WW1, Lucius realizes that he has not written to his dad very much. He appreciates everything that his dad does though. He only wants to see his dad soon. He looks forward to July 4th, at the port where they may have races, He then says that he wishes the best for mom and dad.

    During WW1, Lucius is writing a letter to his parents hoping it would reach them by new years. They were on their ship and got blown out into the open. They were their for a long time and then they got hit and it caused a fire. This caused them to have to deal with the fire and pump out water. Everyone on the boat was sick because of the bad weather except for Lucius.

    During WW1, Lucius explains that they have things they do for fog. One minute before they are supposed to stand by on phone, red flag held upright. Let go means to let go on phone and drop the red flag. The flag will also be shown on port wing.

    An Armistice is a signed ending fighting on the Western Front. Every year Armistice day takes place November 11. We celebrate this because of the signing between Allies of WW1 and Germany. This event took place at eleven o'clock in the morning—the "eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month" of 1918. The armistice initially expired after a period of 36 days.

    During the WW1 time, Lucius writes a letter to his grandfather. Father day is coming up so he figured his grandfather deserved a letter from him since he had not talked to him for a long time. He talks to his grandpa about the past and how he used to travel with him. He misses the things they used to do.

    Peace conference begins in Paris.
    The peace conference took place after ww1 on January 18, 1919. This peace treaty was between Central and Allied powers. The main result was the Treaty of Versailles with German. This all made it humiliating for Germany and set the stage for the expensive reparations Germany would have to pay.
