    The Advanced Research Projects Agency was created in 1958 by the United States Goverment to help with the creation of new ideas in science and technology. The Advanced Research Projects Agency helped with the creation of the world wide web.

    Tim Berners-Lee created the first website in 1990. The website explained the World Wide Web project and gave information on how to create a webserver and how to create personal webpages, and how to browse the web.

    Tim Berners-Lee and his colleagues uploaded the first photo to the the web. The photo featured his house band. He wanted to prove the web was for more than just physics.

    World Wide Web softwear was put into public domain, giving permission for anyone to use and modify the web. Shortly after Oscar Nierstrasz builds and creates the web search engine, W3 Catalog.

    The first social media site, Six Degrees launched in 1997. The site allowed users to create a profile and friend other users. The site lasted frim 1997 to 2001.

    AOL Instant Messenger launched in 1997 for Mucrosoft Windows. At one time AOL had the largest share of the instant messaging market in North Anerica. In 2011 AOL Instant Messenger market share had declined 0.73%.

    In 2003 MySpace was launched. MySpace.com was orignally used as a data storage site but later developed into a social networkign website. Users networked with friends, uploaded personal photos, blogs, music, and videos. From 2005 to 2008 MySpace was the largest social media networking site.

    Facebook launched in 2004 as a dorm room project of Mark Zuckerberg, Eduardo Saverin, Chris Hughes, and Dustin Moskovitz. The website's membershit was initally for Harvard students, but was expanded to other college students, and eventualy introduced to the rest of the world. Facebook now has a market value worth nearly $245 billion.

    Youtube started when PayPal employees started to create a video-sharing website, where users could view, share and upload videos. Youtube.com was activated on February 14, 2005.

    Twitter Launced
    Twitter was orignally created in 2006 as a short messaging system for small groups. The pair of eyes in the bottom right of the orginal sketch simbolize the idea that users would watch another user, which later changed to follow. Twitter is now an online social networking service that enable users to send and read short 140 characters messages called "tweets". The first tweet on Twitter said, "Just setting up my twttr".
