  • Assassin

    in the year 1914, all of the Great Powers except for Great Britain had large standing armies, but on this day war was about to start. the Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated in Sarajevo. the killer was Gavrilo Princip, a 19-year-old member of the Black Hand (a secret society).

    Austria rejected Serbia's offer and declared war. the same day Serbia's ally, Russia, took action and the leaders of Russia ordered the mobilization of troops to the Austrian border.

  • Battle Lines

    the lines between countries were drawn by this time. Germany, and Austria-Hungry making up the Central Powers due tot he location being the heart of Europe. the other side was Great Britain, France, and Russia. these countries made up the Allied Powers or the Allies. this day was important because the sides were set and war was breaking out. the sountries took their sides and were set.
  • Weastern Front

    on this day the Allies attacked the Germans northeast of Paris, in the valley of the Marne River. Germans gave orders to retreat after four days of fighting. this day was the day the British could go chase the German.
  • Eastern Front

    this Eastern Front Battle was played on ther area of battle field along the German and Russian border. Russians and Serbs battled the Germans, Austrians, and Turks. this was an important day because the Germans had to hit two sides of war due to being in the middle of the Allies.
  • Trench Warfare

    this type of warfare was becoming big during the war. so many people were dieing that the soldiers dug into the ground and made a huge trench making this method now known as Trench Warfare. everything was done in the mud. this type of warfare in important because this way soldiers couldnt die as easily. they would have to be taken by an air weapon or close up and personal.

    this was another battle on the Western side of things. this was when the Germans chose to launch a massive attack against the French near Verdun. each side lost 300,000 men. the battle near Verdun was important because the countries lost a lot of men.
  • Battle of Somme

    the British army were trying to relieve the pressure on the French. British chose to attack the Germans northwest of Verdun in the valley of the Somme RIver. on the first day in this battle more than 20,000 British soldiers were killed. by the time this part of this battle was over each side have had at least a half of a million casualties. this battle was important because it shows that the British came in to try and help the French and that so many people were lost in just a day of the battle

    Germans chose to take into submarine warfare through the Atlantic Ocean. the Germans announced that they will have their submarines would sink without warning any ship in the water around Britian, a policy of unrestricted submarine warfare. this was very important because later in the time the Germans do this a submarine sinks a boat a leaves 1,198 americans dead, leaving America outragious. later joins the war.
  • Joining In

    this is the day the United States join the Great World War. President WIlson had asked the congress and the USA joined the side of the Allies. this is a very huge part in history becuase it was Ameria coming in and changing how things were happening. it brought maybe more resources and more men.
  • Russia

    a second revolution took Russia. Communist leader Valimir Ilyich Lenin seized power. he wanted no more involvment in the war. one of the first acts he did was to sign a truce with Germany. this is important because Russia was done. they were backing out of the war and did want anymore part. again changing who and what fought.

    this battle was between the Allies and the Germans. leading the Allies were 350 tanks..........

    onthis date the First World War had come to an end. after four years of slaughter and destruction, the time had come to forge a peace settlement. this was a VERY important day due to all of this madness being put to rest. everyone was able to stop.
  • Wraped Up

    five years, to the day, ago the World War had began. but now there was a Treaty of Versailles between Germany and the Allied powers. this was the most important day because the peace was finial. there was an agreement and things were in full swing to be repared and taken care of.
