  • Japan invades Manchuria

    Japan intended to create a sphere of economic domination. By doing this, they invaded Manchuria in 1931. This event is important to Us History because the invasion started Japanese aggression against China & Indochina.
  • Munich Pact

    Britain and France agreed to allow Hitler to take more land, in exchange for Hitler's agreement to seek no more territory after that concession. Hitler broke the Pact less than 6 months later by taking more territory. This event is important to US history because it ended the European policy of appeasement.

    Kristallnacht is known as the "night of broken glass". Nazis in Germany torched synagogues, vandalized Jewish homes, schools and businesses and killed close to 100 Jews. Kristallnacht is important to US History because contributed to the extermination of 6 million Jews and over 5 million others.
  • Neutrality Acts of 1939

    This event was also known as Cash and Carry. It allowed nations at war to buy goods from the US if they paid cash up front and carried the merchandise on their own ships. This event is important to US History because it helped the US stay out of the War and Neutral with other Countries.
  • Germany invades Poland

    Germany invaded Poland on September 1st, 1939. This invasion contributed to the start of France and Britain declaring war on Germany. This event is important to US history because it led to France and Britain declaring war on Germany.
  • Lend-Lease Act

    The Lend-Least was established March 1941. Congress authorized Roosevelt to sell items "necessary in the interest of the defense of the United States". This event is important to US History because it was necessary in the interest of the defense of the United States.
  • Atlantic Charter

    The Atlantic Charter is a broad statement of US and British war aims. It also demonstrated the devotion of FDR to opposing German and Japanese hostility. This event is important to US history because it showed self-determination and an international framework of general defense is supported.
  • Exec Order 8022

    A. Philip Randolph threatened to organize a march to demand fair access to war-time jobs in Washington. FDR released Executive Order 88022 in response. This event is important in US History because it prohibited ethnic or racial discrimination in the defense sector of the country.
  • Atlantic Conference

    Atlantic Conference happened August 14, 1941. Atlantic Charter was also part of the Atlantic Conference. This event is important to US History because it strengthened between US & Great Britain by signing the Atlantic Charter.
  • Attack on Pearl Harbor

    The Japanese conducted a surprise attack against the Pearl Harbor naval base and surrounding airfields. The Japan attacked in response to US embargoes. This event is important to US history because its referred as "a date which will live in infamy" by FDR.
  • Exec Order 9066

    The Exec Order 9066 was issued by FDR. The internment of Americans of Japanese descent and resident aliens from Japan was allowed. This event is important to US History because it led to the Supreme Court hold in Korematsu v. US

    Fred Korematsu was a Japanese American who refused to leave his home per the Exec. Order(9066). Koremastu Lost since Japanese internment was upheld as lawful by the Supreme Court. This event is important US History because he took his case to the Supreme Court, arguing that internment violated his Constitutional rights.
  • Yalta Conference

    Yalta Conference happened February 2nd, 1945. Final preparations for Europe's defeat & discussion of the post-war European Plan started at the yalta conference. This event is important to US History because Stalin helped USA with Japan.

    Bombing of Hiroshima & Nagasaki

    President Truman agreed to drop atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in order to escape the need to land and fight on the home islands of Japan. Japanese gave up unconditionally, and after the bombs were dropped, no invasion was possible. The Bombing is important to US History because the US helped rebuild and democratize Japan after the war, creating an ally.

  • Marshall Plan

    The Marshall Plan is a financial & military aid to to Greece & Turkey to prevent a fall to communist rebel forces. The Marshall Plan is important to US History because the US offered it to promote economic rebuilding. Named Marshall Plan because it was proposed by Sec. of State George Marshall.
  • Israel is established

    The US sponsored the Jewish people's self-determination by establishing the Jewish state of Israel. The US immediately acknowledged and supported Israel. This event is important to US History because it demonstrates the impact on the conscience of the US & the world of German war crimes.

    On August 29, 1949 Soviet Union tests Atomic Bomb. The Soviet Union testing an Atomic Bomb is important to US History because it began the nuclear arms race. This led the United States to accelerate the development of the hydrogen bomb.

    On June 25, 1950, the communist North Korea invaded South Korea. United Nations voted unanimously to demand a ceasefire and support ‘police action’ to defend South Korea. This event is important to US History because peace negotiations ended with North Korean forces contained above the 38th parallel, a victory for containment.
  • Soviet Union launches Sputnik

    When the Soviet Union launched Sputnik on Oct 4, 1957, the space race took off. This was important to US History because it led to the passing of the National Defense Education Act by the US Congress. The act promoted science and math skills counteract the fear that consumerism had made Americans less competitive and less likely to win the arms race.

    When the Sputnik was launched, the National Defense Education Act was later on passed. The National Defense Education Act was used to increase math/science skills. The Cold War ended primarily due to Changes in Soviet Union, Strain of arms race and Afghan war on Soviet economy, & Movement for liberation in Eastern Europe.
