Japan unexpectedly bombed Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, which resulted in harm to 18 ships, almost 300 planes, and 3,000+ soldiers. Luckily, our aircraft carriers were not there at the time, which became important in the upcoming years.

Hitler and his wife both ate cyanide in an undergroung shelter base and then Hitler shot himself (on top of the poisoning). They were later cremated.

The "Little Boy" bomb was dropped from the Enola Gay.
Background: J. Robert Oppenhemier and others turned atomic materials into the bomb that killed more than 80,000 people.

This time the atomic bomb killed 40,000. It led to the win the Allies couldn't quite claim at Hiroshima alone. The Bockscar successfully dropped the "Fat Man", which was originally intended for the town of Kokura but had to be rerouted.
