    The Start of the War
    The war started on July 28,1914 in Austria Hungary. The cause of the war starting was the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand.

    The battle of Tannenberg
    The battle was fought between Russia and Germany. It was the first battle fought on the Eastern Front.The Russian army was lead by Grand Duke Nicholas, who had also helped France when under attack by Germany. Even though the Russians were more powerful and larger the Germans ended up being the winners.

    The first battle of Marne was the end of the German attack on France and the beginning of Trench warfare. There was over 250,000 French deaths and their was about the same on the German side but they never published the amount of deaths occured. This was the first notable allied victory of World War I, saving Paris preventing Germany's plan over France.

    Battle of the Gallipoli

    The battle started by a failed naval attack on Dardanelles Straits during the months of February and March of the year 1915 by the British. The French which then continued with a land invasion of the Gallipoli Peninsula on April 25th. After all the battle was a fail, when trying to force Turkey out of the war. It started going down when the war ship were unable to force through the straits such as the Dardanelles. On Jan.9,1916 was the ending of the battle

    It was one of the longest and deadliest battles. The casualties from Verdun and the aftermath from the impact the battle had on the French was the main reason for the British starting the battle of Somme in the effort to take German pressure off the French in Verdun. The battle started because of a plan by the German chief Von Falkenhayn. He wanted to launch a massive attack on a narrow stretch of land.

    Battle of Jutland

    The battle lasted 36 hours and was the only major battle that was fought on the Northern sea that was 60 miles off the coast of Jutland. I was known to be the largest surface battle in the naval history because, of the numbers of battleships and battlecruisers involved. The ending of the war was on June 1, 1916 with the results of Germany loosing 11 ships and suffered 3,058 of deaths and the British had 14 ships sunk and 6,784 deaths.

    It was an operation British and French forces against the Germans. It was one of the bloodiest battle in British history. The British and French had planned a to attack the German divisions. The British and French lost the battle due to the fact that they had untrained volunteers as soldiers and didn't have the best artillery compared to the Germans.

    The started by Sir Douglas Haig, attempting to break through flanders taking place on the Western Front for the controls of the ridges south and east of Belgian city in West Flander. It was an important battle due to hoping to outflank Germany's fourth army.The war ended due to the village of Passchendaele was taken and was used as a reason to attack. At the end their was 310,00 dead British men and the Germans lost 260,000.

    The Italian army suffered major losses such as their soldiers taken as prisoners and equipment lost. The state of the Italian Army was bad. The allies sent to the 11 divisions - 6 French and 5 British. The Germans and Austria Hungary won the battle.

    It was a significant event in WWI because, it was one of the first battles where tank and heavy artillery was being used.The British sent 8 divisions to attack the Germans towards Cambrai but, it only ended up attacking only 3 divisions by surprise. The Germans ended up winning due to the fact that they launched an attack on the British causing them to retreat.

    In the spring, German General Ludendorff ordered a massive attack on the western front. It was Germany's attempt to end WWI. The russians helped the Germans by giving them 500,000 troops and so Ludendorff was confident.The allies knew about the germans plan but, didn't know from where the attack was coming from.The Germans had been killing and taking British and French soldiers.

    The Germans were taking a huge victory but since their soldiers carried nothing except artillery and then advancing quickly slowed down the troopers carrying the weapons, put them under a huge strain. The germans couldn't deal with the casualties and ended up giving up.
