  • Heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne is killed

    Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to the Austro-Hungarian thorne and his wife Sophie made a visit to the capital of Bosnia, Sarajevo. While riding through the streets of Sarajevo, in an open car, the couple were shot a point blank range. The shooter was a 19 year old memeber of the black hand.(A secret society commited to ridding Bosnia of Austrian rule)

  • Austria declares war on Serbia

    Austria rejects Serbia's offer and declares war on them. Russia, Serbia's ally, ordered the mobilization of troops toward the Austrian border. Alarm then struck lraders all over Europe, the fragile European stability seemed about to collapse. so the British foreign minister, the Italian government, and Kaiser Wilhelm urged Austria and Russia to negotiate, but the war was already a set thing.Beck, Roger B.   • Battle lines are drawn

    Austria-Hungary vs. Great Britain A.K.A the central powers because of their location in the heart of Europe.   • Allies attack Germany

    The Allies attacked Germany just northeast of Paris, in the valley of Marne river.   • Gallipoli Campaign

    The Gallipoli campaign started with the effort to take the Dardanellas straight. British, Australian, New Zealand, and French troops continued to make repeated assaults to the Gallipoli peninsula on the western side ofthe strait. so Turkish troops commanded mostly by German officers hurried to defend their region.   • Germany launches an attack on the French

  • The British attack Germany

    The British army tried to relieve pressure from the French by attacking Germany on the northwest of Verdun, in the valley of Somme river.   • Germany threatens Britain

  • Vladimir Ilyich Lenin seizes power

    Communist Vladimir Ilyich Lenin seized power. Lenin insisted on ending his country's involvement in the war, so he offered Germany a truce.
  • Treaty of Brest-Litovsk

  • Second battle of the Marne

    The Allies and Germany clashed at the second battle of the Marne. The Allies attack strategy involved some 350 tanks that mowed over Germanys battle lines. Then with the arrival of 2 million more American troops the Allied powers continued toward Germnays battle lines. The Allied powers soon crumbled the Central powers. First was Bulgaria then the Ottoman turks surrendered. Then Austria-Hungary ended that empire and in Germany soldiers mutinied and the public turned on the Kaiser.Beck, Roger B.

  • Treaty of Versailles

    The treaty of Versailles was signedby Germany and the Allied powers when a compromise was finally reached. They signed it five years to the day after Franz Ferdinand's assasination in Sarajevo.
