    Four teams decided for form the American Professional Football League and agreed to several rules; that they would not sign college players or players contracted to other teams and that there would be a salary cap. Eleven team representatives showed up, elected Jim Thorpe as President, and agreed to form the league, although there would be no fixed schedule, minimum or maximum amount of games, and the winner would be determined in a vote at the end of the year.

    Lee de Forest, an inventor schooled at the Yale Scientific School, had been interested in the process of sound on film since 1913. It would have great impact on the development of radio, a fact that de Forest promoted, calling himself the Father of Radio. In 1918, his move into sound on film began to take shape. A drawing emerged, with patents filed for his sound on film process four years prior to the first public showing. DeForest Phonofilm would record sound on film in parallel lines.
