World War I Time Line

  • Assassination

    Archduke Franz Ferinand was assassinated creating a chain of terriorist act within the alliance system. Making this event the starting of World War I the largest war in Europe and in the world.
  • Austria

    Austria declared war, after they have rejected Serbia's offer. The ame day, Serbia's ally, Russia took action. Russian leader order mobilization of troops going toward Austrian border
  • Germany and Russia

    Geman Government declared war with Russia. About 2 days after Germany declared war with France creating the Western front.
  • Eastern Front

    Easten Front was along the border of Germany and Russia. Russia and Serbia fought Germany.
  • Battle on the Western Front

    Allies attacked the Germans, northeast of Paris. After four days of fighting German generals gave orders to retreat. A British officer later wrote, "It was an inspiring thought, that the time had now come to chase Germans."
  • Gallipoli Campaign

    British, Australian, New Zealand, and French troops had made repeats attacks on the Gallipoli Peninsula on the western side of the strait.
  • German Launched..

    Germans Launched a massive attack against France near Verdun. Each side lost more than 300,000 men.
  • July - November

    British army relieved pressure on the French by attacking the Germans northwest of Verdun, in the valley of Somme River. The first day Britain had lost more than 20,000 men. At the end of November each side lost more than half a million men.
  • Submarines

    Germany announced that their submarines would sink without any warning any ships in the water around Britain. This policy was called unrestricted submarine warfare.
  • Declaring war

    President Wilson asked Congress to declare war. United States entered the war on the Allies side.
  • Ending the involvement

    Communist leader Vladimir Ilyich Lenin sezied power. He then insisted on ending his country's involvement of the war. (Russia)
  • Treaty of Brest-Litovsk

    Russia and Germany had signed the Treat of Brest-Litovsk which ended the war between them.
  • Second Battle of the Marne

    The Allies and Germans clashed at the Second Battle of the Manre. Leading the Allied attack were some 350 tanks that rumbled slowly forward, smashing through German lines. With 2 million more of the American troops the Allied forces began to steadily move towards Germany.
  • Coming towards the end

    World War I came to and end. After 4 years of terror.
  • Five years later

    This day marked the five year death of Franz Ferdinand's death in Sarajevo. Also the Treaty of Versailles between Germany and the Allied powers was signed.
