    Assasination On the morning of June 28,1914, while traveling through Sarajevo, Francis and his wife Sophie were assassinated by a Serbian nationalist. They were assassinated while crossing the Latin Bridge in Sarajevo. Francis ignored warnings of a possible assassination plot and decided to explore the area where the 1389 Battle of Kosovo took place.

    Declared War Exactly one month after the assassination of Francis Ferdinand, Austria and Hungary declared war on Serbia. This battle began the first World War. Kaiser Wilhem ll was the only one that still saw a possibility of peaceful resolution to the conflict, but the German government overruled the opinion.After Austria and Hungary declared war, Russia ordered mobilization in the four military districts.

Their strategy for war was against Russia, Schefffein Plan which called for an initial attack against France which is Russia's ally. So even though Germany had no dispute with France at the time, it still declared war against France.

    Zeppelin Raids Two Zeppelin airships bombarded Britain and killed 28 people. It hurt 60 people and was a deadly attack. They usually attacked in bad weather so that it was hard to see and easy to kill. In these bad weather situations, they couldn't see the target so they killed many civilians instead.

    Lusitania This ship carried people and goods between the United States and Great Britain. It traveled through the Atlantic Ocean. On this day, the Captain couldn't go fast because of fog issues. A German U-boat spotted the boat and launched a torpedo at the ship and it lead for the boat to sink after several explosions. The boat sunk within 18 minutes and 1,198 people died on that tragic day.

Fourteen British and eleven German battleships were sunk. Both sides claimed victory but the British lost more ships and twice as many sailors. So battle wise the Germans won.
