    German U-Boat torpeodoes the British passenger ship Lusitania off the Irish Coast. It sinks, 1201 people drown, including 128 Americans. This causes US President Woodrow Wilson to send diplomatic protests to Germany.

    A battle between the French and Serbian troops that ultimately results in a French loss on November 22nd, forcing the Allied troops out of Serbia. Date important because French failed to capture an important Bulgarian stronghold on the 7th.

    A telegram sent by Alfred Zimmermann of the German embassy is intercepted in Washington D.C and Mexico city. It offers that Mexico and Germany form an alliance, to attack the U.S. and to help Mexico regain some of its territory that the U.S. now owns. This telegram is made public, causing interventionists to become furious that Germany would create such a scheme. The public now wants U.S. intervention in the war.

    At the Palace of Versailles in France, Germany signs the Treaty of Versailles, ending the war. The treaty is viewed as extremely harsh and unfair by German citizens, as it put Germany in severe debt ($28 billion) and put the sole blame of the war on Germany. This feeling of mistreatment and contempt for the Allies sows the seeds for World War II, and for Hitler's rise to power.
