Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand
Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie were shot and killed by Gavrilo Princip. The archduke traveled to Sarajevo where he was going to inspect armed forces. The Black Hand had been planning to assassinate the archduke, and were ready to set their plan in motion. The Black Hand had 7 members ready to complete this event. Everyone had fail, and then an accidental change of course cause Princip to be in the perfect position to kill them. He shot and killed them. -
Austria-Hungary Declares War on Serbia
Exactly one month after the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia. After being threatened by Serbia ambition, Austria-Hungary decided the proper response was to prepare to invade Serbia. This was the start of World War One. -
Russia Mobilizes Troops
Russia declares that they will mobilize their troops. The mobilization of the Russian forces are to show support to their allie Serbia. -
Germany Declares War on Russia (Battle of Tanneberg)
German Generals Paul Von Hindenburg and Erich Ludendorff stoke the forces of the Russian Army. The war took place during the opening weeks of World War I. Trains were used to transport from one location to another quickly. In the end Germany came out on top in this battle. -
German Submarine sinks the Lusitania
The British ship called the Lusitania was sunk by German submarines. The ship was struck by unexpected torpedos. After a little less than 20 minutes the ship completely sunk. 1,198 people drowned because of the sinking of the Lusitania. -
Naval Battle of Jutland
This battle occurred off the North Sea coast of Denmark. There were around 250 ships and 100,00 men involved in this battle. The battle began when there was gun fire between German and Britain scouting forces. Both sides say they won this battle, but in reality Britain is the real winner because they kept control of the North Sea. -
The United States Enters the War, and Declares War on Germany
The United State formally entered the war 2 days after the senate voted to declare war on Germany. President Woodrow Wilson declared that the US would stay neutral and not join the war. After Germany had sent Mexico the Zimmerman Note, and killed many Americans they decided to join the Allied Forces. -
Russia Signs the Treaty of Breast-Litovsk with Germany
The treaty ended Russia's participation in the war. After the treaty was signed, Germany gained 1/3 of Russian Land. After the war ended the land that was giving to Germany was taken back and split up, and the treaty was annulled. The reason Russia wanted to leave the war was because of the current Russian Revolution. -
Battle of Cantigny/Battle of Somme
This battle is the first one the American fought in. The Allied Forces captured the German forces in the village of Cantigny, on the Somme River of France. By May 1918, enough Americans entered France, and helped face the Germans. This ended in a victory for the US troops. -
Treaty of Versailles
The Treaty of Versailles official brought World War I to an end. The treaty outlined the fact that German was at fault for this war. France, Britain, and the US were the 3 main nations that negotiated the terms of this treaty. France wanted promises that made sure they were not invaded again. Great Britain just wanted safe peace, and the US wanted everyone to be at peace and to be united.The Germans faced many consequences due to the signing of this treaty.
