     Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated
    A group of terrorists called the "Black Hand" end up shooting and killing the Archduke of Austria-Hungary. This happened in Sarajevo while on a trip. This makes Austria-Hungary furious and they start a war. This ignites the spark of the war.

    Russia Reacts
    Russia steps in and reacts to the assassination of the Archduke. They decide to take matters into there own hands and support Serbia. They caused problems for Austria-Hungary. In return wanted France to back them up as well. Which then France backs them up if Russia ends up going to war.

    Germany and Russia start to build tension with one another. Germany is still upset about the assassination. Then out of anger and frusturation they delcare war on Russia.

    Since Germany had declared war on Russia. France promised to back them up. So then Germany felt like starting a fight with France as well. Hoping to catch them off guard.

    Germany takes some of Europe and leaves Russia vulnerable. Leaving them to try to defend their territory. In the end Blegium invades Russia out of knowhere.

    The Lusitania is sunk by the Germans. It was a passenger ship that had 128 American citizens on it. The United States blamed spain for this making them want to join the war even more.

    Kaiser Wilhelm
    After the sinking of the Lusitania, General Kaiser Wilhelm tells Germany that there will be unrestricted submarine warfare. This is trying to help prevent the United States from joining the war. This also benefits the United States from preventing supllies to get to Germany and France. Starving them and leaving them hopleless.

    The United States asked Germany to not continue submarine warfare. But they continued using them anyways making the United States furious. This leads them to join the war and this was the cause of Germany's defeat.

    Alfred C, Harrison decides to join the army. He goes into the Battilation Sanitary unit along with the United States engineers. Unlike other people in the army he kept a diary recording each battle camp he went too and what the weather was like.

    The Selective Service Act comes into place for the World War I. President Woodrow Wilson authorizes the draft with this Act. He didn't want a draft, he hoped for enough volunteers for the United States army. Although, not a lot of people volunteered as he hoped. So the Selective Service helped with the draft.

    Alfred C. Harrison had got sent off to Camp Wadsworth. He documented every day there. The most things he had to while he was there was to report the wounded soilders back to the surgen. Who would then prepare for what kind of medical assistance each soilder would need.

    Alfred C. Harrison witnessed a parade to send off soldiers to the war. He had already experienced this with his own family once before. This time he watched his friends say goodbye to there famalies.
  • Last Day At Camp Wadsworth

    Last Day At Camp Wadsworth
    Alfred C. Harrison spent his last day at Camp Wadsworth trying to get to the mountains. Everyone was. While he got closer he ended up picking cotton and sending it home to his family as a souvenir.

    At a new camp called Camp Stuart. It was straight to business they began giving orders. Almost everyone was running around to different departments and for different orders. Rumor was that they’d only be there for a week. All of his guy friends went down to the beach to hang out with the girls. It made him excited to get out of the army. Five months later and the Armistice was signed.

    Armistice day is a day to remember when the Allies and the Germany signed the Armistice. It was the day we ended all the wars. We celebrated this day every year on November 11th to honor our veterans. It is also called Veterans Day.
