During the battle of the Lys, the British used tanks to break German line, and the Germans countered with their own armored vehicles. British tanks were male and female Mark IV tanks, and the Germans fielded A7V's.

United States Marines earned fame here, and their much loved nickname, Devil Dogs. They fought so ferociously that their German enemies called them "Teufelshunde", or Devil Dogs.
