    Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife were assassinated while visitng, Sarajevo, Bosnia. He was next in line for the Austro-Hungarian throne. The killings sets off decades-old tensions in Europe and started WWI.

    Austria-Hungary declares war on Serbia
    One month after Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife were killed Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia, effectively beginning the First World War known as World War One or The Great War.

    The first time poison gas was used was by the germans. Poison gas was very dangerous because it was killing too many people and some people didn't have access to gas mask, so they could not survive.

    With the outbreak of World War I in August 1914, and the sinking of the Lusitania in 1915. The Germans torpedoed the Lusitania. 128 American citizens died in this event and only 761 surviving.

     U.S. Enters WWI
    When Americans entered the war there was an immediate impact. April 6, 1917 two days after the senate declared war against the germans. Of the nearly 2,000 passengers aboard, 1,201 were killed, including 128 Americans.

    On this day, in 1918, the Great War ends. It was early in the morning but they still had stuff to do such as fix ups and repairs which are known as reparations.

    Stipulated a demilitarized zone and separated the Saar from Germany for 15 years. The treaty also carved up the Austro-Hungarian and Russian Empires. Wilson believed the the League would correct any mistakes in the rest of the treaty.
