    The Schlieffen Plan
    Count Alfred von Schlieffen begins devising a battle strategy known as The Schlieffen Plan. They thought that this plan would ensure a swift victory over their opponents France and Prussia. The Germans would catch France with their guard down which meant that the French would be unable to properly defend their territory. After this victory they intended to do the same to Russia.

    Franz Ferdinand was visiting Bosnia to inspect Austro-Hungarian troops. When a serbian terrorist group know as the "The Black Hand" assasinated him and his at the time pregnant wife.

    World War I also know as the Great War began in Europe due to the assassination of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand in 1914. The war concluded in 1918 after a peace treaty was signed. It was an awful time full of many tragedies.

    The Battle of the Frontiers were a series of battles fought in eastern France and southern Belgium. This was one of the battles in which the Schlieffen Plan was put into action. This battle pitched France, Belgium and the United Kingdom against the German Empire.

    The First Battle of the Marne (also known as the Miracle of the Marne) begins. The battle took place in France, on the Marne River, hence its name. It was a battle between the German Empire and the joint forces of France and the United Kingdom.

    This was a sad day in Australia's history, as many of the troops were were ambushed and subsequently injured or killed at ANZAC cove. The Turkish soldiers had higher vantage point and the Australian, French, Irish and British soilders knew that this battle would've been almost impossible to win because of the large advantage.
