World War 1 timline

  • Assasination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand,

    Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assasinated in Sarajevo, Bosnia. The killer was Gavrilo Princip, He 19 years old and part of the black hand. They tried to use the assasination as an ecuse to punish Serbia because the killer was a serbian. This was important because this was part of the begining of World War 1.
  • Austria Hungary Decaleration of war

    Austria Hungary gave serbia an altimatum. The things they wanted were Demands included an end to all anti-Austrian activity. In addition, Serbianleaders would have had to allow Austrian officials into their country to conduct an investigation
    into the assassinations.Serbia ageed to most of the demands but they wanted to nagotiate on some of the other demands but Austria Hungary did not want to negotiate. So Austria Hungary did not accept there nagotiation and declared war.

  • Schlieffen Plan

    This was a plan put together to attack France and Russia. It was a way to mobilize troops faster and so that they would race west. To defeat france and then go to war with Russia. This was important because it was a plan that General Alfred Graf Von Schiefflen
  • First Battle of The Marne

    The most important event in the war. It was when the Germans were beat and the schlieffen plan did not work. This was important because it gave the triple entente a advantage because Germany was defeated.
  • Battle of limnnaowa

    Austria and Germanty defeated the Russians and forst them east and then pushed them out of Austria Hungary. This was important because this gave Austria and Germany an advantage by pushing Russia out of there territory.
  • Gallipoli campaign

    British, Australian, New Zealand, and French troops attacked Gallipoli. They were trying to take over the Dardanelles strait. This was important because they were trying to find a way to stop the stalemates but this started another one.
  • Battle of Verdun

    The Germans launched an attack on France. on each side more than 300,000 men died. This was important because the armies were starting to use bigger and more powerful weapons and this lead to alot more deaths.
  • Battle of Somme

    British armies launched an attack on Germans trying to take preasure off of France. The First day of battle there were 20,000 deaths at the end there were almost half a million deaths. This was important because it was another battle were they where using bigger and better weapons.
  • Unristricted Submarine Warfare

    The Germans said that they will sink other ships without warning. This started because britian had blockades that made food shortages in Germany.
  • United States Enter War

    America came into World War 1 because britian intersepted a letter to Mexico saying Gemany would give back land that America has already taken over if Mexico allied with Germany. This was important because it brought another country into the war and that means that more people could die or the Allied powers could over power the Central power.

    The Russian Revolution was when Vladimir Ilyich Lenin took Russia out of the war. This was important because it could've been the start of the end of the war,
  • Second Battle Of The Marne

    When the Allies and Germans went to war for the second time for the Marne. This was important because even more troops died.
  • Armistice

    This was a meeting between a represenative of the German government and Marshal Foch. The Armistice was an agreement to stop fighting. This was important because this was a part to ending the war.
  • The Treaty of Versailles

    This was important because this is how the war pretty much ended.
