    The German government had not made plans for a long war. By 1914, they relied on imports for about 1/3 for their food. Since most men and horses were called for the war effort. Food production was cut in half by the end of the war.

    The Battle of Verdun was both the largest and longest battle of World War I. The battle was against German and French troops. Poor weather delayed the German attack on the French.
  • Battle of Jutland

    Battle of Jutland
    The battle of Jutland was the first encounter of the world's two largest naval powers. The German strategy was to draw out british ships and destroy them. This seemed to work as they claimed victory. However, after international view, they were leaning towards a british victory.
  • Camp and basic training

    He first went to Camp Custer in Battle Creek, Michigan then to Camp Dix, New Jersey for basic training. Arriving on September 10, 1917. Although men from the 26th Unit were to perform engineering duties, they were still required to go through basic training and that meant close order drills, rifle practice, long marches, KP, and guard duty. After basic training they boarded trains for New York Harbor and sailed for France on March 29, 1918, on the Troop Ship Rochambeau.

The gas is heavier than air and they would settle into the trenches. Some would blind. Some would burn. But all would disable.
