    The Battle of Marne made it clear that the war was not going to be a easy sweep for the Germans and the Triple Alliance. Despite the Belgians being severely outnumbered, they remarkably held out for nearly two weeks.

    The Duke of Austria-Hungary was shot and killed on a visit to Sarajevo, Bosnia. He rolled around a corner in his open car and he and his wife were killed. Soon after several countries were building armies.

    Germany declared war on Russia. This significant because they are each very important parts of the Triple Alliance and Triple Entente.

    When the Germans introduced the gas to warfare they dominated the battle of Neuve-Chapelle. The opponents had no idea it was coming any masks to keep it out of their system.

    The Germans Launched the battle of Verdun in February 1916. It did not come to an end until December 1916. In the end it was one of the bloodiest and longest wars fought in WW1, nearly 750,000 German and French soldiers died, many more were wounded.

    The U-boats, or better known as submarines gave the germans a whole new advantage during water warfare. When they attacked, most of the time the opposing side didn't even know until the torpedoes blew a hole in their side.

    Aboard some of the boats that the German U-boats sunk were several Americans. The U.S. was a national power at this time as well as now. They did not want to get bullied around like they have no power. Therefore, The U.S. sent in troops.
