    Franz Ferdinand and his wife, Sophie travelled to Sarajevo to inspect his troops and while driving, a member of the Black Hand Gang, Nedjelko Cabrinovic threw a bomb at his vehicle but missed injuring bystanders.     The First Battle of the Marne lasted from 09/6/1914 - 09/12/1914, This was an offensive military push by the French Army and the British Expeditionary Force. The Germans who had invaded Belgium were not far from the French territory so the French used this opportunity to push back the large military battalions of the Germans. Through the assistance from the allied forces they were able to push back the Germans from advancement.

    The landing of Allied forces on the Gallipoli Peninsula in Ottoman turkey was in regards to a strategic military move. The campaign's goal was to secure the land in order for the Allied Naval ships to pass through the Dardanelle with the objective of capturing Constantinople. But after intense fighting and causalities adding up in large quantities they decided to evacuate months later.

    Italy declares war on Austria-Hungary and enters World War 1. Italy initially remained neutral in the beginning and eventually joined along side the Allied Forces. Italy chose based on the assurances they would receive in the Treaty of London. This meant Italy would gain control on its border with Austria-Hungary.     At 0400Hrs, The battle of Verdun began, German forces came in mass numbers along with heavy artillery attacks. The attack was planned by the German chief of General Staff, Von Falkenhayn. Von knew Verdon had a strong sentiment for the French. The Garman soldiers won the battle and captured Fort Douaumont, the largest of the forts protecting Verdun which lead to the German victory.

    The Battle of Jutland lasted 72 hours that consisted of German and British naval militaries. The British lost 14 ships and suffered 3,058 casualties while the Germans lost 11 ships and 6,784 casualties. The German Naval forces won the battle but did not destroy the British Naval superiority. After this battle the Germans would not attempt to break the Allied blockade for the remainder of the war .
