    German used a Schlieffen Plan to invade France and confronting Russia in the east. On August 4,1914, German troops crossed Belgium, advancing to France. The Germans used powerful weapons. The Germans killed civilians and caused destruction on their way to France.

    Around Christmas day in 1914, the Western Front celebrated in the trenches and between the enemies. On Christmas Eve, many German and British troops sang Christmas carols to each other. Men exchanged presents like cigarettes and plum puddings. There was a case where soldiers from opposing sides playing soccer. Germans climbed out of the trench and shook hands with the enemy side.

    Germans forces shocked Allied soldiers along the Western Front by using 150 tons of lethal chlorine gas. Germans started activating chemical weapons. After the attack, France and Britain began developing their own chemical weapons. Many of troops were injured. People wore gas masks.

    Over 100 Americans were on board the Lusitania ship traveling from New York. A German boat sunk Lusitania. IN 1917, Congress passed a $250 million bill to make the U.S. ready for war. U.S. declared war against Germany.

    Edwin Turner was able to get a promotion in 1917. He was ranked 2nd Lt. in the army. It was singed by the president Woodrow Wilson during World War 1. It's a real copy of someone's promotion paper.

    The Spanish flu was one of the deadliest in history. An estimated 500 million people worldwide died. It first started started in Europe before swiftly spreading around the world. There was no drugs or vaccines to treat the flu. Citizens were ordered to wear masks

    On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, artillery went silent along the Western Front in France. The war ended with an armistice, both sides having an agreement to stop fighting. Germany was suffering from starvation and the situation was getting worse. Germany’s military was weak and was feared of being conquered.

    World War 1 ended on June 28,1919. With the signing of the Treaty of Versailles. Germany agreed to pay reparations of the war under the Dawes Plan and the Young Plan. The two plans were cancelled in 1932.
